On the passenger side seats there are large plastic covers over the nuts holding the seats down, with one small screw in each one holding the covers on. On the driver's side the nuts holding the seat down have (had) plastic caps over the nuts similar to what you'd find on a toilet (if you'll excuse the comparison). Is this normal or has someone been screwing around with my seats before I bought the car?
Second, when both seats are as far back as they can go (leg room wise, at 6'4" I need it all the way back) the passenger seat is a good 1"-1 1/2" farther forward than the driver's seat. Does that sound normal either?
And finally, an observation. Has anyone else noticed that the power features of the passenger side seat doesn't work if the driver's seat isn't hooked up? I just thought it was interesting.

To answer your first question,it seems as if someone lost the original covers and used something else. Second question, it is common for the driver's seat to sit further back than the passengers but 1 1/4" does sound like a little too much. Mine might be about 3/4" at the most. As for the third, the seats may be wired in series which would make sense if the passenger won't work unless the drivers is hooked up. Have you tried the drivers without the passengers hooked up?
Well the third wasn't really a question, just something I noticed when I put the passenger seat in before the driver's seat.
So both seats should have the large plastic covers and not those little toilet-bowl nut cover things eh? Oh well, all four of those broke when I popped them off anyway.
I sat in the passenger side seat for the first time in quite some time the other night (I let my brother drive, it reminded him of his old 'vette). It's definitely noticably further forward. I guess it's not a big deal but it seems weird.
Oh one more thing, my seat backs will tilt forward without lifting the lever on the back. Is this common too? Thanks.

Mine did, that is before I swapped them for a set of Corvette seats.

and i think the answer to ur question about the passenger side seat not working without the drivers side hooked up has something to do with the motors for both seats are under the drivers side i think.. but im not sure on this one..

Tech article: How to repair the passenger seat so it doesn't flip forward under heavy braking. Open passenger side door. Pull the lever up while tilting the seat back. Release the lever. Have a beer (optional). This is a simple band-aid fix. It lowers the center of gravity, so it is harder for the force of braking to flip the seat forward. Lon

The seats will fold forward without using the lever. For most instances the seats are subposed to work that way. There is a mechanism that is activated by G-forces that when you hit something or the brakes, there subposed to lock the seat back. Originally posted by SBlackfoot

The release is for unlatching it if it gets latched. If there not perfectly adjusted, simply faceing down hill sometimes they will lock.

As for The reason why the passenger seat will not work when you unplug the driver seat is because your seats are all controlled by a single pump. There are 2 sides to it.
If I remember right there are 2 lines that come from the pump, and one goes to the switches on the drivers seat and the other to the passenger seat. The switches on each seat controls the pump to create pressure or vacuum, and it also opens a valve to pressureize or evacuate the air in the bags in the seats.
hope that makes sence...

Thanks for the info guys. My passenger seat does tilt forward when I jump on the brakes. Surprisingly it's only happened once or twice now (it never laches, I just rarely need to brake that hard). My lil Jimmy does the same thing.
Hmm... Only a single pump... That makes sense. I wondered what the vacuum line was for since I assumed that each seat had it's own pump. Naturally the passenger seat controls wouldn't work when the seat with the pump is sitting on the patio twenty feet away.
Okay, one more. (I'm up to five but there haven't been any complaints yet... lol) Is it normal to have surface rust on the bottom of the seats? It's pretty ugly under my driver's seat. Maybe I should be looking for a hole in the floor...

I think most of them get that way, the ones I have seen have a little at least, fortunatly most people do not look under our seats... just a little humidity does it really quick, and I am not sure if they ever coated them with anything anyway (like gavanizeing, or Zink/ Aluminum), since there not usually in the elements, they last the life of most of the cars...

I noticed the rust under my seat because those plastic covers I mentioned (Question #1) are missing and the front, uh, feet (?) of the seat are noticably rusted. A few minutes with a wire brush and some Tremclad and it's passable. Has anyone ever stripped down the seat frame and cleaned up the rust?
Thanks for the info guys.

Yep, those are the covers. Why are there so many? Shouldn't there only be eight? Now that I think about it one of my passenger side covers was broken too, although a little CA and it's holding up. Which classifieds? How much are you asking?

When I took the picture I had two extra front covers, however; since then I used them, so there is eight for the front and rear studs.
The Classified Ad is on this Board (Thirdgen.org), and you can e-mail me for the price if interested.

Well forgive my ignorance, but I see no classified ads section... Plus you apparently don't wish to receive e-mails, so I'll send a PM.

Ah my mistake, I just found the classifieds. That's good to know.
