Removing power window switches
Just bought some new power window switches (so they have the white window on them....). Tried to pull out the drivers side switch and it seems to be bigger than the hole on the underside.
Is there a trick to pulling them out ....and PLEEEEZE don't tell me you have to pull the console to get them out.
Also, on the fuse panel cover, what is there in the rectangular hole for the cover screw to attach to???? Bought one of them also and can't get it in either 'cause there's nothing for it to mesh with.
I did do a search, read thru about 20 messages and none seemed to address this issue....
TIA

Well the reason it wont pull thru is the wiring connector that plugs into the switch is indeed bigger than the hole. So yeah you need to take at least the shifter plate loose so you can get your hand in there.

Thanks IROCmonkey....guess I'll try that.
Any words of wisdom on the fuse panel cover?

Bought a new fuse panel cover...tried to put it on and there is no method for the screw to attach to. There's a rectangular hole. I am assuming it probably needs one of those spring type nuts. But don't know for sure.

To replace the power window switches, just take the console plate off. You will need a T-10 torx bit or screwdriver. If you have an 82-92 Camaro, or 82-84 Firebird, either with an auto transmission, then your center console is the same as mine, so follow these steps. First take off your shifter ****. I have an 85-92 Firebird T-style shifter, and it just has a C-clip in the front of it that you pull out, the nthe whole thing comes off. Now remove all the torx screws that hold down the shifter console plate. NOTE: Do not try and remove the 4 torx screws that appear to hold down the small panel that the window switches are actually in. THESE ARE FAKE SCREWS, and if you try and remove them, you will just snap them off. For the consoles I mentioned earlier, there are 4 obvious screws, one at each corner of the shifter plate. Pull the E-Brake and you will notice there is another scre hidden there. Now open your ash tray lid, and you will find another screw hidden under there. Now, this part is a little tricky, put your transmission in first gear to make this easer. You must first lift up the back of the console plate, then slide it towards the back of the car, because there are tabs at the front of it which must slide out.
Now you should have the shifter plate out, and you should be able to see the backside of the window switches. Unplug them, and you will see that the switches have 2 little tabs each that hold them in. Squeeze these tabs, and the switches should just pop out of their holes upwards.
This may sound really complicated, but its actually really easy. The whole process shouldnt take more than 45 minutes.
Hope this helps.

my fuse panel cover has a little spring lock nut on it, you just push it up in and give it a half turn...damn things sucks tho, have to wiggle it a bit to get it to lock in...my other camaro was the same.

hmmm I'll have to look up under my dash, I am leaving work in an hour and I'll look then.
ok I looked....my car has a little hole in the under dash panel for the cover screw to latch to. cover has tabs that hang on the back of the hole and the screw clips to a hole in the front.
