Looking At Car With Aftermarket T-tops??

Hey guys, I found an 89 Iroc with a 305 5 spd. It's a G92 and was originally hardtop but the original owner had t-tops cut in shortly after he bought the car for some reason. The main difference in them that the weather stripping that covers the front and back parts goes from one door to the other. It's hard to explain and I don't know if its possible to find out who may have cut them in?? Anyways I was just curious as to how badly this may have weakened the car structurally and whether I could put real ones in there or just have someone put a roof back on the thing. Any info would help me alot!!

Personally, i wouldnt buy the car, cause i have heard it destroys the car structure, and trying to rebuild the roof would just cost too much to be worth buying the car, instead you could find anoter IROC w/ T-tops in even better condition or a mint one for the money you would spend on this one...

Just my opinion, but i have learned the hard way, take your time in buying the car, and if it doesnt feel right, then dont go for it. I had my share of getting screwed over.... and believe me, its not a good feeling in the end, just wait and search for the perfect car.

There are quite a few of them out there with aftermarket T-Tops, so I couldn't imagine it's that bad.....nothing a set of SFCs can't fix...I've heard some of the aftermarket T-Tops were pretty cool and could be opened like a sunroof and stuff....if one was to break I could imagine that it would be difficult to find a replacement though....

I say go for it....

look at my website and find some t-top shots if you can on there, if you have THOSE t-tops , then they are C&C t-tops , not that uncommon and everyone who has them will agree with you that C&C (car & custom) did such a good job that not only do these almost never leak but they are also much stronger structually (if you take off the headliner you'll know why)

now it could also be a total hackjob and then in that case Iw ould run as far from it as possible
but since you said the original owner had it done then I"m 99% sure that what you have is the C&C ttop "mod" that C&C did to any 3rdgen you brought in

you can still order weatherstripping from www.sunroofdoctor.com
and even some of the plastic trim pieces (compare those peices with yours , if they match then you have C&C t-tops) , there should also be a C&C logo in the corner of your ttop glass

hope that helps and IF they are C&C tops , go for it and never look back , they rule

Well I checked out those pics and they do look quite similar but its hard to tell because I couldnt find any really good pictures of the design. I noticed that the t-tops do look a bit shorter like that one website said but the way the weather stripping goes on the car looks just like yours. I'll have to check the glass if I get another look at the car. If this was done by C&C where would it have been done? I would think that their an American company and would this original owner have been willing to go that far to get them done or what??

Its funny, I hear people complain about the factory tops every day, "they leak, they make noise etc" but I have never heard one complaint about the C&C tops except there not "Factory"

To give you an idea about C&C, they actually made the Pontiac Banchee, For pontiac, they converted ALL of the 79-93 Ford Mustangs to Convertibles, they were no small company.

So they had some idea what they were doing...

Some Japs bought them out in the 90's
