Painted seats, not problems
I have an 83 Trans Am with dingy grey cloth seats. I am going to change my interior scheme from solid grey to a black/silver montage. I have since painted one of my seats with black fabric paint and it really looks good. The only problem is, where I sprayed the paint, it seems to have almost hardened to the point where it the cloth is not smooth anymore, but almost gritty and sandpaperish. Does anyone know of any methods to soften this cloth back up or am I S.O.L.? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I would recommend using fabric dye, not paint. My dad and I dyed the carpet in our old Audi A5 black, it was grey. The only problem is, you have to shampoo and vacuum it many times when its done, to remove the excess dye, or it will rub off on everything.
Don't dye
I would not do that. The dye will come off and you will really be SOL. Just get some 4th gen cloth seats for about 200-250...maybe less. I did that and i couldn't be happier!!

Actually I spray painted my carpet black in one of my cars. What you do is spray on the paint and with a scrub brush you scrub it while its wet to get the color in. I think I scrubed it again once it was dry. Worked like a charm...
You might have to repeat it until you have a consistant color. I assume the method would work on fabrics too. But be concious that most of our seats are beginning to rot so you might wear out your cloth on the seats from the scrubbing...
hope that helps...
