GM part sucks?

Hey.
I orderd a new GM front bumper cover for my '92 from a dealership. So I got it and it was crap. The turn signal sockets were warped to a point that the lenses wouldn't even fit in them.
the grille opening was warped also, and it had body clips on it already that were painted black as well. It had some writing on the back also, don't know what it meant.
This nose was sprayed with black paint, and it was bubbled and all.
So I sent it back and the new one came in, and it is not too much better. Still a little warped, black paint, body clips, same writing on the back, but I can work with it if I have to.
I got one for the '88 a couple years back and it was not like this. The material was black, not white like these two were. No warping, not sprayed with anything and no body clips on it.
Can anyone varify if their GM noses came this way lately?
I can return it but I want a GM part, not aftermarket. this is the second one and the dealership says that it is probobly how they are being made now. help please.

Yes, I had trouble with my front fascia on my '84 Z28. The first one I got when I restored the car was perfect. Then some nimrod backed into the front end and I had to replace it. The second one we had trouble lining up the front ground effect. It took us quite awhile to get the bolt holes even close to where they should be, and it's still not quite right.

Re: GM part sucks?

Bringing this post back from the dead...12 years later. I have the same exact problem. Got new bumper cover from the dealership, it had horrible sag in the headlight area and several other small imperfections. My original was much better quality. So I returned that one and received another, the second one is just as bad.

I'm debating returning this one also. But I've heard you can heat them up and they will return to their original shape. Has anyone ever done this with a new bumper cover? Has anyone else experienced these newer bumper covers? Both I received were made in 1998.

Re: GM part sucks?

if you get any "aftermarket" bumper cover you'll have problems. i bought an aftermarket front bumper originally for my t/a. it was fine, but warped over the course of like 2-3 weeks. i was told not to try anything again other than a stock replacement from a donor car. i found someone on craigslist parting out their car, took the bumper (it was a GTA bumper which is why now i have GTA badges) and havent had any issues with it since.

You can order the front facia off of amazon, it is where I got my replacement. I am very happy with the quality and fit of the one I received.

Well I mounted it on the headlight panel and set it out in the sun for awhile and that seems to have fixed most of the issues. There's still one tiny little kink in it but I guess I'll just have to live with it.

This was an original GM part from the dealership.

They only make parts for 10 years after the car was made. If it was a GM part, it has probably been sitting around for 12 years. The newest of the third gens are going to be antique in 3 years.

I can understand by now these parts are well past their prime in terms of being able to sell. But at the same time it's kind of maddening how GM produces parts nobody needs for several years, then they stop producing them just as the cars are getting old enough that people actually need to buy them.
Especially frustrating with things like rubber hoses, etc. which always wear out but not before they're out of production. One of the ironies of life I guess.

Job security. If we all could make our cars like new easy, no one would buy new cars. I believe they are mandated to make parts for 10 years.

Re: GM part sucks?

I couldn't get original floor mats and some interior trim pieces in 1996 for my '87. Owning one of these cars in the mid-late '90s was aggravating. Either you didn't know about places like Hawks or TDS or they didn't even exist yet. No NextGen catalogs either.

yall DO realize GM gets all their parts made in C H I N A !! with the stunning lack of quality that chinesium parts are well known for? the only comfort we can get is with the current ign switch recall and following lawsuits. they will be paying way more to get out of it .than if they had just made the switches here. in my opinion ANYTHING that GM made after ,,say 1989 is total crap. as for a good enough bumper cover ,find a good used one. it is your only hope

Re: GM part sucks?

Do you have proof the parts are made in China? Without it, it is just wild speculation. Here is what I put on my car and it fit fantastic:

Amazon Amazon

Did you happen to snap a pic? Don't take offense, it's just on the internet even a picture is probably fake, lol.

If anyone gets another one of these, can you please snap a pic of the made in china sticker?
