Making a z28 is not as bad as passing off a T/A as a Hawk. Those people should be laughed at and be told they have a POS car that is hacked together. If you want to reflect what you have under the hood, Classic Industries has a nice selection of OEM badges from other years that say motor size. I am sure you laugh at Honda owners that have VTEC stickers on their car or Type R stickers huh? You are doing the same exact thing! Making your car something it is not. If you want people to know what it has then get some of the old 350 emblems. Again this is like putting Cobra badges on a GT When will people learn to be happy with what they have or sell it and buy the correct car. As for the people who hack up first gens what are they trying to prove? That they can make a look a like much cheaper? You still don't have the real deal so stop trying to pass it off as one! You are egoistical because you don't like having people pull up next to you and them seeing a RS. There is nothing wrong with a RS yet you have to have Z28 because of the respect it gets. If it means anything none of the third gens (except for the '91-'92 and '89 TTA) were really fast. They were quick but not fast. If you want fast I would not be looking at changing a stock third gen motor in and putting on Z28 emblems. If you want fast why not install a LS6 or blown LT1??? Then you would want alittle RS because it would be a sleeper. So what are you trying to prove again??? Seems to me you have a ego to with hold and make your car "show" its speed.

This was not a flame about how fast the 3rd gens are. If they were that slow and sucked I would not be dumping tons of money into a complete restoration of my '83 L69.

Yeah, while maybe not as hostile....I have to agree.

I talked to a guy I do business with who shows an old Ford Falcon. Among car show guys, he loses some credibility just for changing motors....(he drags too). But the ultimate sin is mis-badging...UNLESS it is clearly stated somewhere in your dislplay of your car. If you're not showing it, then how you dislplay that it's not a real Z28.....you don't.

I have no problem with ANY modification, including motor. blisters and HI-rise spoiler, just don't do the badges.

Most of us have some emotional connection to our cars...If we didn't, we wouldn't come to this site everyday and talk with each other about our love for these cars. Within this group, we all have smaller loyalties to our specific models...the most prestigious being Firehawk owners. But that doesn't mean that as Iroc driver, I care less about my car than the Hawk guys. When we see someone trying to get into that "group" whether it be a Hawk, Iroc, or a Z28, your price of admission is having a "real deal" car. That's why it's a 10th sin. You'd understand if yoor car was a real Z28. Now that doesn't mean you can't make your mods...just not the badges. Heck, 95% percent of us make performance mods.

It's just not honest.

Bottom line is it's you're car.

If you want our approval, well, you're not gonna get it. Most of us disagree with re-badging your car as something else.

If you don't care what we think, fair enough. You're entitled to your opinion.

We are apparently not gonna change your mind, and you certainly are not gonna change ours.

Let's shake hands and agree to disagree.

i had thought about getting the SS badges when they were made (one of the big oem companies made these for a bit), but i realized it would be a lot more fun to beat someone with the original RS badges on my car. i want the hood blisters, but its still not "sleeper" enough for me. i'm even debating the whole California IROC look (no wing basically). i no longer have a 305 under the hood, but should i really think about changing what i'm badged because i've got a 400? heck, if you were to look under my hood, unless you know these cars well, you wouldnt even know there was anything different. replicas are cool, but i think our cars are a little too young still to make copies of.

OH yeah, did you see that 84challenge started the very same discussion on a thread today?

I answered simply, and un-offensively.

You DO know of course which way I go on this issue!

sorry bout that i just did a 14 hour shift at work...................

anyways, i'm not going to use the Z28 emblems, because after going to the apearance boards, i see too many young-ones hacking the living hell out of such nice cars, i'm young and i dont want to do something stupid, which it pretty much was

if you need further clarification let me know

but i have another 11 hour shift ahead of me today
so be patient

I realize I wasn't the reason for your decision, but thanks for the clarification anyway!

I think most of (NOT ALL) the older guys agree with NOT mis-badging for one reason or another.

RS's are cool....especially with fast motors.

I don't get rebadging a vehicle to something it is not. Your vehicle is what it is. This is more of a ***** thing though. They take Si emblems and put them on their Civics. Even though they have the base model car. Or I see "Type R" emblems on vehicles that aren't type R's. I just don't get it at all.
