There are 3 10mm bolts that hold it to the firewall and 2 13mm bolts that hold it up.I think the part that holds it up is part of the dash, but I dont think it would be to hard to fab something up

you can pull out all of the dash, with only bare firewall showing, and the steering column is still fastened to its bracket/bracing that comes off of the firewall.

Re: steerign column bracing

I need a new steering column in my car and would like to know just what I need to do to remove it from the junkyard donator car. How far down the steering do I disconnect the steering column?

Re: steerign column bracing

Holy old thread..

There are bolts in 3 places holding the steering column in place. One on the steering shaft under the hood that you'll have to remove, three (might be 4, can't remember exactly) holding the base of the column to the firewall, and two nuts holding the column to the bracket that comes off the firewall. There's also a couple wiring harnesses plugged in to the column, and if its an automatic there's a cable that runs to the shifter.

Like G-reg said,

Disconnect the shaft under the hood, three small bolts where the base of the column housing meets the firewall, and two larger nuts that hold the housing to the car further up the column. It will not take you much time at all, even if you have never done it before. Only thing I have heard of going wrong was setting off the airbag. Oh yeah, don't set off the airbag.
