Man this shifter is badass ... i didnt even know hurst made an auto shifter for thirdgens Does anyone have pictures of it installed?

I know they are hard to find. I found one for my 79Z and got it for $20. The guy didn't know what he had. It's aka as a "his and hers" shifter. She drives it automatic on the left side, he flips open the gate and drives it like a 3-speed on the right. I haven't tried mine yet, but can't wait. I've never seen them for 3rd gens though. Check e-bay from time to time, I've seen them pop up there and go for $100+. Good luck.

They sell the hurst duel gate from year one next generation for 299.00 brand new with shifter plate for the camaro. you can also go right through hurst to get it. im hopefully gettin one for christmas

Also , the hurst quarter stick is cool too and that comes with a console model for 83-92 camaros anyone have this? Any pros and cons to it?

Quarter stick is also a good shifter. Year one does have it for a fact i know they do. its a division of the company called next generation. they dont have it on there website its only in there catalog....order the catalog or call them and youll find it. hurst has a website but im not sure what it is but i do remember going there before

the pic of the car above is my car .. I have been trying too buy a replacement top panel for over a year, HURST has been no help .. they have sent me in circles looking for parts.

This shifter is suppose to be discontinued ..

wha? discontinued....thats odd. cause it appears in my latest next gen cataloge.

i just went on hurst website and found it part# 292 0000

thats in there latest cataloge from hurst and next gen. The duel gate has been around since 1960's it came factoary in all the hurt/olds w machines. they'll never discontinue it. they might not carry just the top plate for it but you can get the whole assembly.

call next gen 1-800-921-9214 the part number from them is TR48

IIRC, Hurst was bought out by some other company and most of their shifter manufacturing was put on hold...or least thats how it was a year ago when I went looking for a Hurst. I ended up going w/ the B&M Prostick (identical to the Hurst Quarterstick) and love it.....impossible to skip gears, and is just plain cool.

Be warned tho, unless you get a shifter made specifically for your car, you'll have one hell of a time installing it. If you want to keep your factory console, you need some way to elevate the shifter to sit 2-3" higher so it works properly in the console....also you may have to cut part of the floor pan to accomadate the different angle the shifter cable will be coming in at. Of course, you could just take the easy way out and buy the optional aluminum cover, rip out your console, and be done w/ it

how much and where?

Where can I get a Dual Gate, and how much should it cost. I love the look, and I really want one. I was about to buy the Megashifter, but I would much rather have the dual gate. Anyone know where I can get it?

Not Exactly

The actual components of the shifter should be the same if you have a 700R4, but the shifter is designed to replace the factory console style in a Camaro. I would think that you would have to fabricate and modify a buch of cosmetic items to get it to fit.

true. the first time i saw that shifter, i wanted it so bad. i noticed the 'camaro only' description, and didnt know there was a difference. i searched the boards a ton, and the overall concensus is that it would take way too much effort to customize it into a firebird. mb somebody with the time, equipment, and skills could do it...but i seem to be lacking in all three of those categories

I still want it, the only reason it says its for camaros only i think is because of the console. And i have a camaro console in my car so ill be set Im almost positive the shifters are the same minust the one with the ball but thats interchangeable witht the birdie shifters.

I find it odd that so many of you like that shifter. When I had one in my 72' Cutlass I hated the damn thing. Thought it was pointless and redundant. My buddy had given it to me from his 442 cause he didn't like it either. We both switched to the B&M Megashifter which I always thought was so much better. Hmmm interesting, maybe it was just us.

I got my dual gate last christmas and it was on back order through year one so I had to wait 2 or 3 months for it, it looks really cool in the console I just started putting it in the car because I wrecked it soon after christmas and am just now getting the car back together they left out some instructions and a few bolts and clips but I am going to get those from the parts store and hopefully it will be done soon I will tell you how it works out when it is all done, I also heard it was discontinued but I do not know. Check year one and if not them try HURST.

I machined a plate for mine out of aluminium then had it anodized black. I'll try and get a picture of it tomorrow.

the tranny's are exactly the same. You either have the 200-4r or the 700r4, both were the only automotica avialibe in 82 to 92 camaro. Both are the same regarding the shifter. absoluty no difference.

As far as I know, the 200-r4 never came in a 3rd gen. A 200c did though and it was a 3 speed auto, no overdrive.

Skatepunk60, I'd call up Summit just to verify if that shifter will work on a 700-r4 before ordering. Part # HUU-3162006 is the shifter I'm running with my TH400

You are very mistaken.The 200 r4 has always been availbe in the third gen i have one. All 6 cylinder models came with the 200R4 transmission. The 700R4 being for the IROC-Z and Z28.

The shifter will fit. Any 4 speed automatic shift will fit any 4 speed automatic transmission IF the shift pattern is the same. The only difference would be the shifter cable.

3rd Generation Camaros introduced: Sport Coupe, Berlinetta, and Z28. Z28 selected as Indy 500 pace car. Five engines were available with the Camaro. The LQ8 2bbl 4 cylinder, the LQ9 TBI 4 cylinder, the LC1 2bbl V-6, the LG4 4bblbl V-8, and the twin TBI LU5 V-8. Transmissions were a 4 speed manual and a 3 speed automatic. All Camaros came with front disc brakes.

now 90RS3.1 im pretty sure that the Grand Nationals had 200R4's ......so there is an example of a 200r4 with a V6......actually i hear the 200r4's are better than 700r4's when it comes to how much power they can handle........

cool lol The 200r4's are better for drag racing since the 1-2 shift isn't as big of a jump like the 700r4's 1-2 shifts are. Not sure about the power handling bit but it must be good for the boosted Grand Nationals.

There was never a 2004R in an Fbody.

I guess you could put one there if you want.
I have it in my Monte, I personally like it better.
It has a quicker shift, and it is firmer.....

actually yea there was...the 89 turbo transam had a 200r4..

82 only had the 200c or the 4spd saginaw available...i should know ive owned both...

83 was first year for 700r4 and for the t-5..consequently 83 was the only year for a manual clutch t-5 tranny with 84 the hydraulic clutch was introduced.
