4th Gen rearend

We havea ll seen that the 4th gen interior can bolt up to the 3rd gen. I have a sime question can I take a rear end off a 4th gen camaro and put it on my car with little modification. I noticed that the wheel wheel may prove to be a problem? (I have 16). Will this look supid? Just a thought

Yeah the rear will fit except you have to get new wheels. The 4th gen is practically the same under the car as a 3rd gen, you can even use the swaybars on either car. The 4th gen rear is wider then the 3rd gen so your wheels will stick out. So you have to get 4th gen wheels or buy wheels with the correct offset. By the way the front 4th gen wheels wont work on a 3rd gen without spacers.

Why not just buy a fourthgen, remove the body, and replace it with 3rdgen body panels?

The 4th gen rear bolts up fine, yes it is wider... I kept my 91 16" wheels on there and it doesn't look bad although it hits on the pass. side tire a little... not bad... but I put all new bushings, shocks and struts in when i did it... if you have worn stuff it may be worse.

My bad. I keep thinking people are wanting to put the fourth-gen rear, as in the trunk, tail-lights, what have you, on these posts.

Hehe don't worry about it, it's my fault. It's just that I've seen more extreme things done to these cars so who knows what people are gonna do next...

Did you have to install an adjustable proportioning valve when you did the swap. From what I read in the tech article you have to. Just wondering if you had to or not.

I did the rear swap since I didn't feel comfortable using spacers on the back wheels.
Oh, and a 4th gen exhaust will bolt up too. This one is off of a 95 Trans Am

What did you guys do about the sensors on the rear end... i beleive it is for the ABS did you just cut the wires off or what? also i have heard you need a new master cylinder for the disk brakes? is this true or can you just get a proportioning valve?

All I did is put my 4thgen rear in and drive it! I didn't change anything for the brakes. It's not a must but it won't hurt. Brum brakes take more preasure to stop so when you switch to the disc they stop much better. You change the master cylinder and porportioning valve to keep ya from locking up the brakes wich I have not ever had a problem with even on the freeway and drag strip. So no it won't hurt if you decide to not change any of the brake parts.

I had disc on the rear already, so this one worked fine.
About the ABS, since we don't have it, there is nothing plugged in.
And I used my stock lines off of my old rear since this 4th gen one had ABS and traction control and had 2 seprate brake lines going to each brake, instead of one splitting into two like our cars stock.

For the time being I don't have an E-brake. I am sure that there is a way to make it work but I havent looked into it yet. Let us know what you find out.

You'll need new cables. I believe the ones you need are 92 Camaro 1st design ones. The problem with the ones that are on the 4th gen and the early 3rd gens is the mounting style on the caliper and the location of the equalizer under the center of the car.

I had Jamex 1.5" drop springs. I have the Eibach Sportlines on the car now, but since there is no motor or tranny, the front sits up really high.

I hear ya on that! I just put my new motor in and the front still sits up high. Do you know if it will ever go down? I mean, it should. Right now i have the Eibach drag springs in there and the motor is a bit lighter, but the thing still sits high as hell. Maybe 1ft off of the ground! Anything i should do to lower it or will it "settle" after i start driving around? Thanks

But then again that is what you are in the business for! You own a BODY SHOP, don't you? J/K man, your car is really sweet and original and thats what counts in the long run! It doesn't matter how much was spent, or what name brand you used, its how you did it and why! In most cases it is b/c people can and in other cases like my own, its b/c it makes me happy, working on my car and making it my own. later

What does it cost to get a 4th gen rear posi? I've already got a posi on mine, but have billet adapters and wondered about getting a 4th gen rear instead of using the billets. They work fine, yet I have another project car without a posi that needs one, and well...etc..tc..

Sorry for the delayed reply, like they said above you need a new proportioning valve ($40).

OmniPotentGoku... I paid $250 plus shipping for my rear from Speed Automotive in Tennessee. Its a 3:23 Posi/Disc

I also bought WS-6 springs from them so the total for the rear, springs and shipping was something around $350. Not really bad for a good upgrade/mod!!
