Removal of Hood vent...

I was looking at my car yesturday when I noticed that when they painted my car they put the vent in upside down on the driver's side. How can you get the vent out w/o damaging the paint? Or basically how do you get the vent out at all?? I am talking about the vent shown here.

I would take it to a body shop and let someone do it for you I got mine out but broke the place where the clips mount on them so now i have to put a small bead of silicone on the inside edge to get mine to stay in but if you pay someone to fix the problem and they break the vent they have to pay to replac and paint the new one

I agree that you should bring it back to the people that painted it. How long ago was the car painted? Looks awsome:hail:

I just reached in the underside of the hood, reached my fingers in and pushed them towards the fender and they came right out. You just have to do it slowly.

When my T/A was painted they just went straight over everything and did not take out the plastic parts. I have also gotten spare hood pieces and fender scoops for when I paint the car next year.

I am just returning from the Persian Gulf and will get home to my family and car just in time for Christmas.

I actually took my car to a local auto body shop today. They fixed it for nothing. All they did was pry up on the edge with a puddy knife and it popped right out. All that is holding it in place are tension clips on one side and a lip on the other side.

There are 2 clips under that you can get at witha flat blade screwdriver from underneath. It's a pain to do. Try looking inside the holes with a flashlight first.

My car was painted a couple years ago. I did all the bodywork and removed all the trim, emblems, ground effects, and hood vents so they could be painted separately. The body shop put the hood vents back in and painted them on the car so no there is still primer underneath them. Kinda pissed me off.

Are those rear vents functional, or just cosmetic?

They are kinda both. They are probably more cosmetic then functional. They do go through the hood though so it might provide some ventilation.

can anyone tell me how to remove the front 2 vents? They are bolted on with speed buts, but one of the holes are too small for the 16mm socket needed to remove them.

ideas?

Get a different socket. I think I had to go to a 1/8" one.
