Power Hatch working??? or busted???

Hey

This is the problem, ive been reading all the hatch lock things on the search, but my problem is a little different. I close my hatch and it just dosent lock, it dosent do anything! I hit the switch to reset the thing comes alive agian, so I close the hatch, NOTHING it dosent grip it at all. My hatch has been like this for a long.. long.. long time.. so what should I do? go to the junkyard and pick one up? and how will I be sure that ones ok?
u know what I mean?

damn GM sucks sometimes
what a stupid thing to add to a car.

Understand that without me seeing it diagnosing the unit is difficult. But I think you will discover the problem in less than 5 minutes. Here are areas I'd look at. Remove the hatch surround plastic. Then check if the hook from your hatch aligns properly with the latch of the pull-down unit. I suspect the motor housing has broken where the 3 screws mount it to the frame. This will cause the alignment to be off. Also if the plastic guides in the track are broken or missing the alignment will be off. The 3 main problems are 1) broken plastic motor housing. 2) broken or stripped gear nut. 3) broken guides. These 3 problems will cause 90%+ of all the problems with the hatch pull-down units. Check my web site for parts to repair your unit.

Also here is a link to a tech article I wrote to repair them:
