solicone on oil pan? need answer ASAP.

hey, im in the middle of changing my oil pan, i needto know where does the solicon go? does it go between the gasket and block, or the gasket and the pan, or both? let me know. i plan on finishing this up tommorow. thanks.

Ive never used silicone on an oil pan. Just use the 1 piece rubber/steel enforced gaskets and youll never have to worry about another leak again. Most parts stores carry them too.

I put it on both, the gaskets are not worth using again if you need to remove the pan, just avoid strings of silicon insde the pan.

Make sure there is no oil around where the silicon goes, or it could create a tunnel for a leak, also use kitchen roll instead of rag to clean things, to avoid material threads which also create leak paths if they are between the surfaces and gasket.
