foil backed padding

Just got started over the weekend, am going to put down foil backed padding under the carpet to help cut down on noise and heat especially comming from my headers. My question is should I just try to put this under the existing padding or pull the padding off the carpet then put the new down this would be a big job since it seams to be glued on the back of the carpet. Would it be to thick to leave the other padding on?

I'd say yank the old stuff and then put down the new padding. One reason for this is because that's just going to add more weight to your car. Pluss I think the new stuff will perform better thanthe old stuff. Just my $.02.

I used thedouble sided foil bubble padding as a heat barrier for my Corvette. I then put new padding and carpet over the foil padding.

The stuff I got is the double sided bubble foil, bought a roll of it
at Lowes . Its 4'X 20' X 1/4" thick. It only cost about $ 20.00. When I pulled out the old carpet from my car, I used it as a template to cut the foil. Laid it in the floor and then put my new carpet and pad over it. Most any Hardware store or lumber yard should have this stuff. I know a guy that has a 48 Ford and he insullated the entire roof and trunk area before putting in the headliner.
