How to get 3rd brake light off 86 hatch?

Got an 86 Bird and I'm tryin to get the third brake light off the hatch to have some customizing done to the lens, took off the outside cover, and where the "bolts" go through the glass hatch to hold it in place, they look like they're actually the copper connections also. Under the hatch the "bolts" appear to be torx, but they're just the plastic fakies, though they may be just a cover and would pop off, they don't do that either. Maybe I'm just up **** creek, appreciate any help. BTW, I wnated to have my buddy do up a vinyl grafic that would fit inside on the lens that says U LOSE and spray paint the rest flat black inside then peel the grafics back off, so the "u lose" would be the only thing you'd see when the 3rd brake light lit up. Thought it'd one of those "little things" I could do since I drag race.

You sure that the 3rd brake light bolts on your are plastic??? I took the third brake light off my 86 camaro easily. there are two bolts that go from the inside of the glass and screw into the light on the outside?

Bolts are torqs, they are rubber, what you see is the real thing, the copper on the other side is just like a copper washer, your power goes up around the window then in one bolt, supplies power to the light, out the other bolt and down the other side of the window

so make sure the copper is still there when you put it back on or the light wont work

I removed my whole assebly when I got my 4th gen spoiler with 3rd brake light in it.

So in other words I'm up **** creek cause I tried the torks and they just spun out in the plastic/rubber leaving a nice round hole instead. That's why I was wondering, I'll have to see if I can get the channel locks on it or something of that nature to unscrew them, thanks for the info as I'm relieved to know that at least it does come out.

Hey 86, was the 4th gen spoiler a direct swap? If not, what did you have to modify?

I had to drill a hole or two, but thats it, really easy install and definetally worth it, was on the car in less than a 1/2 hour.

Can you add a third brake light to a car that didnt come equipped with one? My 84 didnt come with holes in the glass. I expect that you could attach it somehow.

ooops sorry we misunderstood each other, my spoiler is the 4th gen style spoiler from GT Auto which goes on as I said. A stock 4th gen spoiler needs the center pedestals extended using fiberglass or something like it, ask Scaufiel (if thats how you spell his name)

Ohhhh, I figured it wasn't going to be that easy. Well, I guess I'll check out GT Auto then. Thanks.
