Poor mans white gauges???
Hey guys, that guide to "do it ur self white gauges" tech article is down for some reason, I want to put white gauges for my car, I got special paper for my printer and its glossy and would look very nice if I do it now. But can someone post or tell me where to get them. I need them in Km/h please.
And how accurate are they?
does it change anything?
do u put them over the black ones?

I think I read somewhere that that site is down because that guy is selling them now, not sure if thats true though.
Anyways dont worry, if you still want to do it cheep, its not to hard to do. Take your dash apart(you would have to do all this stuff to stick the faces on any ways so its not a big deal). Take the guages all out of the cluster. Find a good flat bed scanner. Lay the gauges face down on the scanner and scan them in at the highest quality BMP or JEPG as can get. Then use the Paint progrgam to edit them so they look the way you want. This will let you change the colors, fonts, or anything else you want too.
Hope that helps.

I may be wrong about him selling the faces, so some one might want to confirm that before everyone starts getting bent out of shape.
P.S. I downloaded the all the files from that tech article before it went down so if someone wants them let me know, I just found them last night.

The duranged design guy was on chevytalk.com awhile back and made a lot of enemy's there. He would post a question then log in under another name, and answer his post making it sound like he walked on water with the stuff he was selling. The moderator caught him because of his IP address. From what I remember he is banned from CT.
Anyway, just some info for you all to chew on.

I made plexiglas backers for mine so the whole gage would light up... I have considered using some electro Lumiinescent screen to use as a backer, that would make the color more even over the whole gage.
I Have considered making a reverse of the top side so that only the color shine through, but just thought
Basically I just have a piece of yellow paper, which happens to be the exact color of my car... thought it was more unique than white... it looks absolutely fantastic, and at the TA Nationals everyone thought they were great...
I can post some pix if you like...

Want to know why its down?
I MADE THESE, and the comments in this thread is why I TOOK DOWN THE ARTICLE.
I didn't mind helping people at first, then I see them being sold on ebay, and when I didn't have the template you wanted, you send me hate mail calling me names and stuff.
GO HUMP YOURSELF
I have every right not to ever post the site again. I was actually re-writting it and moving it to the new server but after this post, you can continue to figure it out on your damn own.

Oh yes i don't sell them and I never will, I offered the tech with a collection of 50+ templates for the gauges in a zip file for everyone to use.
I don't sell this, I made it for everyone. Maybe I will post it again, but it will be on the tech section of www.hr3rdgen.org

pennyless-I have your collection of templates and I didn't email you and ask you to change anything. I'm greatful for all the work that went into these. I guess I should have emailed and said thanks, but didn't think anything about it until now. So, I'm saying thanks now.
I guess this hit home because I just spend a lot of time copying some old instructional videos and some videos we took of some racing events and sent them out to people. Not a one of them even said thanks for the time and money it cost me to buy the tapes, and then ship them out by UPS. I don't even know if they watched them or threw them into the trash.
So, I understand where you are coming from and again I want to say thanks.

I made that tech guide when I had my old RS, it was the first mod I did to that car.
I wrote it and complied the ZIP file of templates for other people to use it.
But the e-mails that were coming in my inbox of the negative type far out wiegthed the postive.
It was always, I broke my needle, its your fualt you didnt' warn me, or I can't find my gauge, do you have it, why didn't you include it, wtf is up with that.....
JUST A BUNCH OF HORSE **** THAT GOT ANNOYING. So when I was redoing my website last month I said **** it, and deleted the folder with that tech guide in it.

Pennyless,
I to would like to say thanks for all the work that you did and I also think that its BS when people either dont thank you for your work or complain when they mess up or have to do more work.
Earlier in the post I said that I though I read you were selling them, I guess I was very wrongly informed. Sorry, Exacly why I said that it should be confirmed before the post got out of hand. More so I think its really crappy that some guy is able to get away with doctoring yours and John's work and then selling it. I think it would be good to make sure that the word gets out that these were more or less ripped off and that they shouldnt be bought on ebay.
Once again thanks for the time you spent on the overlays, and sorry for those people that didnt apperciate it as much as I did.
Kevin.

I bought mine off of ebay for $48.00 + $385 for shipping, from someone who calls himself c.prompt At first I was dissapointed, becasue the redline wasn't high enough. Then he sent me one with the correct red line, so I thought that I was happy. Not until I had already ripped my stock gauges off, did I realize that the were too small to fit properly. After that experience, I just decided that I would rather buy manufacturd white overlays. That, and at night, the lights (even though they are painted) still come through too bright, and it just looks funny at night..... Either make your own, so you can be mad at yourself, or get the right ones that aren't photo paper!

Even if I would have know before that you guys were already making them here, I would have never even looked on ebay for them. And today, while I was out working on my car, I noticed that I didn't use enough glue when I put them on. and now I cam see little areas that are "bubbling" up. I've got a photo printer here, and would like to redo mine. Could anyone here (since I don't have a scanner) send me the scanned overlays that I need, so that I can make them the way that I'd like it in an editing program. And this time I can make sure that I use enough glue! Thanks if anyone helps me out with this. And just to let everyone here know, anything that doesn't cost me from here, I'd never try to sell elsewhere. Although I do have some friends here with some camaros, and I'd help them make some for their cars. you know...
