Some advice for automatic transmission owners

If you ever need a automatic shifter ****, you might notice that your screwed on aftermarket parts. Everyone makes awesome shift ***** for standard trannies but not autos. Well I found something out if you ever need to change out your shift ****.
1) It's easy to do the work. Pull the pin in the front with a flathead screwdriver. Pops right off.
2) Pontiac Grand AMs use the same shifter that we have. At least most of them do. You'll find a huge amount of them at the junkyard. Just pull em and swap em.

My shift **** was in sad shape when I got the car. I have had a hell of a time finding a replacement. Hope this helps someone in a similar situation.

I got mine from Saturn. I believe all of the SL coupes had them, I know that the '99s did because that is where I got the idea from. I have one on the Cavalier and my Camaro. I dunno who designed the top push button one that is on the Camaro and the Cavalier, but they SUCK.

The wire is a minijack to RCA converter that goes to the Apline deck. THe metal thing is just a mount that I made out of metal and coated with truck bedliner, I will atach a pic of that. And the other thing is my Apple iPod that I have all my 5gigs MP3s on for the car! It is in a black neoprene case because I don't care for the white color that it normally is.

A guy I work with has a Saturn like the one you speak of. I though the shift **** might work in our cars. That's good to know. I forgot to add that the Pontiac Grand Prix has them as well. So that's three other cars to get shift ***** out of for automatic transmission owners.

Does that include the Grand Am shift **** that is like a pear kinda shape, with the shift button located on the front bottom part so that when your hand rests on top of it your index and middle finger wrap over and are on the button? Heh, hope that description made sense. I really like those shifters, but they only did that on the fairly new ones I thought, so will they work too?

I know the ones you are talking about. They are very similar to the GM shift ****. They are not exactly the same. They don't have quite as fat a hand grip. I almost bought one from a local auto supply store near where I live. I didn't get it only because I didn't want the carbon fiber look, nor the wood grain. Then I found out that the shift ***** in many Grand Ams is the same as ours. So that's when I picked up my replacement. I got it for less than five dollars and the U Pull It in excellent condition.

Anybody?

I really like those shifters with the button on the front out of Grand Am. If anyone knows whether those'll fit or not I'd really appreciate it.

I hated that push down button, I installed a ratchet shifter what a difference, I love shifting it, with the improved shifting kit i bought also, I can shift from 1-4th. Many people think I have a stick, and they want one also. (B&M Megashifter)

You think you guys have it bad, the shift **** in the earlier cars must be a different design. The round shift ball in my 85 IROC is not held with the normal GM 'staple' arrangement. And mine is obviously missing some pieces, because it's not temporarily held on with black tape....should work until I find time to get my WC T5 swap done. Then I'll go Hurst T-Handle all the way....

Mine came from a cavalier at the junk yard, All I had to do was remove my old one, and put the cavalier one on, direct swap. I had the normal 85-92 Firebird shifter, but I dont like that one very much. The Cavalier **** matches the steering wheel perfectly. Ill take a pic tomorrow.

HamSpiced: haha...actually it's lighter than you think...boxing gloves air fresheners. The overlay actually improved the night vision of the shift letters...believe it or not! I think it's because it created a better contrast for the light to shine through. I though it would make it worst but it didn't.
