crazy horn...only works one time

when ever i push the horn button, it honks one time. if i hold the horn button down, it still only honks once then quits. then it doesn't matter if i honk the button again or not, it won't honk until the next day. i've switched horns with a known good one. has anybody else had this problem? thanks, tom

it could be horn button / switch or maybe a relay.

even when the horn doesn't sound, and the horn button is pressed, i can hear a relay clicking. maybe problem from relay to horn, or faulty relay.

To check the horn, put power to it from the battery. If that quits after you hook it up then it is the horn. You can also hold down the horn button and see where you are losing the connection. If it is after the switch then the switch is bad, if not then go to the relay, if it dies after then the relay is bad. You can probably even swap the relay with another one from the car to try it out. It won't cost you anything.

found the problem! (works everytime now). removed the horn button and found alot of surface rust on horn pad button and column. it must not have supplied a good enough ground when pressing the horn pad. anyway, cleaned the surface rust and now it works great everytime. (i guess the reason for the surface rust is when i bought the car, the t-tops leaked. i installed new t-top seals and now the car stay's in the garage) thanks for the help, tom
