Automatic Shifters.

Hey everyone, there was a post here not long ago about switching your shifters in the camaros with shifters from Saturns and such GM cars. I cant seem to find that post agian, but I went to the junkyard to pull some shifters from saturns and to try them, but they wouldent let me just take the shifter, but there is infact a Camaro shifter that I liked, its a leather wrapped round one, its shaped like a ball, its round.. the one in my car is the squarish one, dosent look to good. So I went over to try to take it out (the round leather one) and it wont come out, Ive tried everything!! NO clips or nothing to take it out, got me pissed, I had to leave it.. but I can grab some other time, but how do I get it out?!?!? I took the button off, than there was some blue peice of plastic that didnt go out or in. thats about it.

What other shifters will work in the automatic camaros!?
What about a grand am shifter or fiero shifters?

I was the one who started that post. At least the recent one.
I don't know where the link is. I can tell you that some junk yards will let you take shift ***** and alot of them won't. However if you find one that does, you can use almost any GM automatic shifter. Saturn, Grand AM and Grand Prix I know work for a fact. My new shift **** came from a Grand AM and is indistinguishable from the original part. I have put them side by side and they are exactly the same.

I got my leather wrapped shifter out of a 1989 GTA, fit on perfectly and looks identical to the ones in the saturns but it is leather wrapped....and I agree the "square" shifter is ugly!

The round ball is retained with a c-clip. It's not interchangable with the later ***** because the retention method is different.

My Z went from a broken round-ball old-style shifter, to a new-style RS shifter with a Firebird T-handle.
