I have a 1991 Camaro RS (V8 TBI) and I'm trying to figure out what this thing is under the front to air vents in the dash. It looks like a black square with a white circle in the middle. What is this?

 

I have no clue what it might be. A picture would help out alot if you have access to a camera.

its a tiny *** light that is suppose to shine down on the hvac controls......i think it is pointless.....

I've had thirdens for 10 years, and I only notice that light last year!

 

Yeah my 91 RS had that light. I had no idea what it was for except when you put something on top of the hvac controls, it shines on it and looks like a little shrine.

 

My 87 has it...its a light. you can take the screw out and the bulb is fastened in there or when you take your dash off you can see it then.......if it works corectly then it will shine light down on you ash tray area but mostly on the top part of the HVAC........what I did was take it off and drilled the hole bigger and touched up the clear lense with a RED sharpie so that it shines red.....pretty cool if you ask me..

 

ill tell you what it is. its useless. it isnt bright enough to do any good no matter what lights u put in. as soon as i can find white leds areound her eim putting that in.

 

I dont think its meant to be bright enough to do anything. Its more or less an accent light, which is exactly what it does...

Yea, I have one on my 91 Firebird, just not exactly like that. I also had a mysterious light projecting from the rear view mirror. There was a little slit in the bottom and it lit up all the console and shifter. It suddenly stopped one day and it's been off ever since.
