Anyone ever put brand new sail panels in , the ones offered from year one . What a pain in the ****..... You would think they would have a little note about the install .

And installation is just the reverse of removal. I recovered mine a couple of months ago, and it was a really easy.

Yeah to remove and replace oem sail panels . I said yearone replacement panels . First the metal tabs that hold sail panels on do not come on the replacements , so... you have to measure off and reattach them , not to hard but the old tabs where held in by PSI , or compression tangs . So i have to grind them all of and epoxy them on to the new . Plus they where covered with fabric , and the fabric has to be cut back closer to the edge to install the tabs correctly . Pain in the butt . most likely take a couple hours , to make sure it fits perfectly .

Hmmmmm.

Was it really that big of a pain? I was going to order new ones from yearone, but I might just recover the old ones. Now I'm starting to wonder....

Anyone else?

Yeah, what he said. They were a pain in the butt to install - I definitely expected better for the price paid. The glue holding the fabric/foam to the board doesn't hold very well AND he's correct - the metal tabs DON'T come on it so you're forced to rip the ones out of your old covers, grind the "teeth" off, epoxy them in the exact location as the old ones (which you have to eyeball) and then hope your epoxy holds once the stiff FLAT panels are installed in the CURVED position.

After six months I still haven't gotten one of mine to lay properly.

Grrrrr.....

Let me be the first to say "sorry". We misunderstood the first post. I did not know that Year One made new sail panels that did not have the tab.

Bread and Scuff,
Sorry about being so abrupt in thinking that you guys could not do a simple job.

Abub,
You might want to reconsider your purchase from Year One. Maybe just go to a J/Y and get an old pair and recover.

what year are your cars, My couisn has a '88 with the metal tabs, but my '91, the tabd are plastic and molded right in the the whole pannel. Not that I'm getting new ones, but what happens if you order a set for a '91 and I dont have any metal tabs to put on the new pannel. Does the '91 set from year one come with the plastic tabs molded in place??

oh i didnt know what yearone was either. anyway have you tried to put the metal clips in the holes, put epoxy on the clips, then just throw the sail panel up against it where it should go until it dries? that what i would be lined perfectly. dunno if it would work, just an idea.

If you wanna wait 20 mins for the epoxy to setup , plus the are flat as a board no curve to them at all . I have had some nylon around mine in the curve postion , but it didn't work . I really am disappointed in yearone . I bought a headliner that took forever to install correctly , and cost to much . Also bought carpet from them that cost alot and took alot of massageing to install .... i am still unstatisfied with carpet . And my sunvisors i bought have beed on back order for 3 months ...... And to top of my bad parts buying exper. i got my 3.75 crank today , and ups i guess dropped it , and looks like it might be cracked . if it wasn't for me making a 15 hours today i would be ready to kill .
