Dash Pad Interchangability ???
Dash Pad Interchangability ???
O.K. I'm new to the game so don't shred me on my first thread. I,m trying to get a difinitive answer as to whether or not a third generation Firebird or TA dashpad will fit on a third generation Camaro dash. I,ve heard Yes an No. I can get a Firebird Dashpad cheap but don't know if it will fit on my '86 IROC dash. Lemme know.

Welcome to the board!
As far as I know the Firebird pad is solid where the Camaro pad has indentations through the center to make room for the vents, causing them to be non-interchangeable. There *may* be some years where they could be interchangable, but I seriously doubt it.

I was afraid of that ...
Thanks for the info CG. I figured that was the case. I'd rather pay the extra bucks for a pad that fits right. I've been watchin' eBay, but they have been going for a hundred or better. Thanks again.
Shipping Charges for a Dashpad
Most of the pads I have watched or bid on would have been between $15 and $22 to ship to me. I shipped a sculpture to California from Arkansas that was about the same length as a dashpad only quite a bit heavier and it only cost me $28 but that was via UPS. I wouldn't pay more than $20 shipping even coast to coast.

modern_master: I made the mistake once of getting a Firebird dash for my Camaro, so I can say with conviction that a 91 'bird dash won't fit in any Camaro.
Welcome to the boards and keep an eye out for me in one of my rides. I'll be out in the convertable this weekend. It's supposed to be 68°!

You mean there's another ThirdGen in NWA !!!
Jza I'm watchin' 4 ya ! I haven't seen any really nice ThirdGens in Fayetteville or Springdale since I got mine. Mine has a long way to go though. Thinkin' about havin' MACO in Springdale shoot the paint on it next month but, I haven't heard whether or not those guys are any good. The price is right though. I gotta go over to Searcy and get some stuff at Camaro Motor Sports. Do you know the place? Don't run over any chickens this weekend ... HaHa !!

if your going to go to maaco, make sure you do all the body prep yourself! and pay the little bit extra for the clear coat!
if your looking to replace the dash pad, you may be able to find a rigid vinyl sleeve, or wrap it in vinyl for less.

Camaro Motor Sports? Where's this?
I've heard the Maaco here is about average as far as the work they do. I need to find a good shop that uses PPG, but the only one in the book had a ******** answering the phone. 540 is hell on your paint; too many pebbles to kick up.
PM me anytime if you guys want to meet up.

They are over in Searcy. The guy I always talk to is Brandon ( I think he owns the place ), anyway... I've got some stuff on its way to me from there. Last I heard they had about 16 Camaros they were parting out, and they rotate stock fairly regularly. I hope that I can get my project done by summer. I just got the car and its a mess. Started out life as an '86 IROC but there isn't much IROC left to it. I got a Z28 hood given to me as well as a full set of '91 or '92 Ground F/X with the brake coolers in them. I had to go to Mountain Home to get them but they were free. As much as I would like to, there is no way that I can "restore" it to IROC specs. I guess I will just make it a personalized sort of "one of a kind" car. Let me know when you guys are going to meet ... I'd like to see what kinda rides ya got.
Hey ... I saw an odd sight the other day ... maybe you know the car or the owner so don't think I'm criticizing. It was a yellow third gen Camaro with like Star Trek photos plastered all over it. I guess to each his own. A bigger Trek fan than a Third Gen fan maybe ... who knows.
