Making a Hatch Release ????

I have a 88 Camaro and it had no power options. I want to add a hatch release though. How do i go about doing this? I have heard that all you have to do is add a wire from a power source, it goes to the relay (under the middle consol and i have to purchase?) and from there have a wire go to the hatch motor. Is that right? Anyone have an easier way? Thanks for any input.

Tommorow I'll take a pic of mine.I installed one into my 85 SC. The install is pretty strait forward. You need the console wiring harness,a hatch release switch, and the release silenoid from any camaro,or bird. If you get one from a 82-85 then you can get the whole release mechanism, and if you get 86-92 release you just need to pull off the silenoid. The connector for the release swith is already in the center console you just have to plug the harness in. Put you silenoid on your release thats already in the car or the whole unit from another. Bolt it on and put the ground wire on and run the long black wire to the centerconsole wiring harness. Then you should be able to pull back on your hatch release and hear the great click.

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
The solenoid from most any late-model GM (say78-up) will work, and should be easier to find.

I have no idea about the part #'s but all you need to do is get the sileniod and theres a metal tab thats on the release where you bolt the silenoid on. You just have to get some pliers and pull the tab up so the silenoid will bolt on.

Its a harness that hooks up to your original wiring harness under the console. Your camaro already has a harness with some unused connectors in the console. The one you need to get from a donor car has a connector on one end, another to connect to the hatch release switch, a relay, and a wire that goes all the way to the release silenoid. Its basically a bolt on addition to any camaro or bird.
