digital climate control
digital climate control
Has anyone tried to put a digital climate control module like from a buick, olds, tahoe etc... into thier camaro or bird. Is this even possible, I am thinking about trying it out since i have digital gauges it will prob look pretty good. Just thought I would ask around first

i would assume it would be a huge pain, the hvac in my car is mechanical. dont see how you could ever put something digital in its place without changing a lot of parts. i have no idea really though, might be possible.

I dunno guys, but my '84 TA uses vacuum to control the vents. The only cable is for the hot/cold control. So maybe it wouldn't be that hard? If your car is shut off and you move the control from say, a/c to off, you'll hear a hiss, that's the vacuum moving the vent baffles. I know mine wouldn't change after I put my new motor in because I didn't have the vacuum canister hooked up right. Once I hooked vacuum up to the system properly the vents would change again. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I don't think it would be all that hard

I was actually trying to figure this same thing out myself....
My brother has an 84 Berlie with the digital dash, but the cluster is dead, we're going to swap over to the 82-90 dash & I'm trying to figure out how to use Buick controls with the Berlie's electronic heater box.
If I can get the schematics for both heater boxes I should be able to get something working (I Hope)

You guys might wanna try getting in touch w/ some of the people on the boards that either own GTAs or TAs with the digital cluster in them, or people that have converted to the digital cluster.
I believe the climate controls are digital as well when you convert to the cluster. There's even a separate section in my 86 and 88 shop manuals that explains it all. Sorry I can't look it up right now b/c I'm away from home.
Hope that tidbit helps

piece-o-cake...
ALmost done with this conversion.. It's alot easier than you think.. seriously.. just need ot get the right parts from donor car.. but easy none the less..
The digital clusters actually use an electric motor assy to switch the vacuum to the various vents and such, good luck getting one though.I tried to repair one of those quite a few years back on my 87 gta and everything was NLA even back then.

I have 2 of these "servo boxes" from 2 different cars.. there's actually several different variations of this system. Mine is by far not from a camaro or firebird.. untill today after doing some more reading, I had never heard of these cars ever having digital climate control. But however, with the right wiring diagrams from the car I got this stuff from and the diagrams for my bird, this is an extremely easy task. both boxes I have work great. these systems are all over the place int he bone yards. just look int he caddy's and buicks and olds for the controls that suit your tastes. As far as the face plate goes, I just widened the upper hole to accept the digital controls. Do they have a face plate that is already wider in the upper hole? I've never seen an actual factory F-body climate control setup.

i was actually thinking of doing the same
my plan was to get a new CD player and put it in the old AC control slot
then put the digital climate control system in the old radio/ tape player hole.
My dad used to drive a 92 buick le sabre, im pretty sure that unit would fit almost perfectly in the old radio/tape player hole, with little modification needed.
the only thing i was worried about is all the connectors, may it be vacuum or wire connections.
let me know how you guys do on your conversions before i change around mine
i guess i dont really use the AC any way, but i do like my heat

I've got a smaller sized GM Delco CD player that I'm going to put in place of the ashtray in the console.
I'll try to get some pics of this as I go along. All you need is wiring diagrams and hook them up accordingly.

Only reason I'm using the Delco stuff is to make it look like it was factory installed. I duno why, but I got a stupid thing for that. Not to mention, I like the look of these radios and controls. Now All I need is a digital GTA dash to complete the look. I have a small all black LCD panel I thought about installing somewhere, but not sure where i'd like to put that.

Re: digital climate control
Ridiculous thread resurrection I know - but if Swimster is still lurking here, I want to re-create this - could you let me know which car the servo boxes came from please? Cheers, Alex

Re: digital climate control
I am currently attempting this, i have the display, programmer(vacuum box/HVAC computer) outside temp sensor, inside temp sensor, sun sensor and resistor set out of a 1995 Bonneville. it dosent look that hard, I was going to mount the blend door motor near the blend door bellcrank and make a pushrod for it, the vaccume looks pretty straightforward and so dose the wireing (with vacuum and wire diagrams for both vehicles), the only prob i have is the junker boniville i got everything out of dash was tore up, and the blend door moter was smashed, autozone wants $70 for it, dose anyone know what cars have the same blend door moter so i can get one from a junker?
