fog light cover removal
fog light cover removal (new to forums :-) )
hey guys, i'm new to the forums and to cars in general
. I have a 91 RS camaro 5.0l v8 tbi l03 5-speed manual that i love, despite its performance problems. Past that i have some very simple repairs that i'd love to do myself, but don't want to screw up, because of being too .. eager.
My car has been extremely well taken care of, but there are a few things that i need to fix, one being the fog lights.. (you might be able to see them here. )
They are faded and have moisture built up inside. I'd like to buy new covers and install them myself, but i'm not sure how to remove the old ones! I know this is probably too stupid to even ask
but how do i remove the old covers to give em a clean before i get the new ones? They really look bad up close, contrasting to my headlights. Thanks for helping!

By cover do you mean the fog light lenses??? If you do, and they are original GM, they are one piece construction with the bulb in the rear. About $200 a SET from GM. Now if you mean the black trim around the lenses just remove it. It is cheap trim metal that serves no purpose. If you have aftermarket lights just buy new
ones.
ones.
damn. yeah it's the lenses then.
oh well.. heh thanks for helping, it'll be while before i replace them. ( i was hoping they were just covers.. or something, that's what they looked like )
thanks again.:hail:

The car in the picture does not have fog lights, the lights i beleive you are talking about are the lights directly below the headlights, those are the parking lights. they are a one peice construction, there are 2 bolts that hold the whole thing in, i think either a 10 mm or a 13mm, don't remember. Just unplug the bulb and then the 2 screws. then pull out the peice. My friend and I did this on his.
We took out the parking lights, drilled a tiny hold in the bottom, to let moisture out, but put the hole near the back, where the bulb goes in. We then took some simple green and a hose and cleaned out the inside of the lens, and used some plastic polish on the lens. They turned out really nice. But for like 30 bucks a peice I think, its either a peice or for both, i don't remeber you can get 2 new housings, that would look even better.
