So I picked up this car to part out and
It is soooo weird.. Tons of oddball things I have never seen on a camaro..
1. A/C Delete Car: One would think ok, heater box, heater controls without a/c, but there are no vents on the dash on the passenger and driver side. These are just blocked off with plastic fillers that are not removable. The only vents remaining are the center vents under the dash pad. In addition under the steering column there is a small panel that has two levers on it. One says left vent and the other says right vent. Another options I have never seen.
2. Radio Delete Car: I have seen these before. This is only the second one to the IROC I sold that I have ever seen with solid molded plastic sail panels on the interior. There is no space for speakers and no speaker sail covers.
3. No Rear Defrost. The only option I can see is the spoiler that looks like an iroc spoiler and it may not even be stock.
The car is an 85 V6 Camaro.. Got oodles of spare parts with it..

my 83 bird has those left/right vents, no a/c, and only center vents. Although it has seprate sail panals.
I own an 85 Z28, with lots of interior options security cover overhead console, electric rear defrost, stereo with EQ sail panel speakers, power windows and locks, so on and so on, and no AC, I only have the center vents, I believe only AC cars had the side vents, but not sure, I also have the two pull vents under the steering column, right at my knee's.
I would say not a base model thing but just an AC no AC type thing

yup i just bought a big box of parts from an 82 trans am with no a/c and he gave me all this "ram air vent" stuff. I was like hmm......ok......then I looked at the service diagrams and it seems that the ram air vents were a way to circulate more cooler air through the vehicle while driving. you pulled the cables to open or close the vents. Very strange indeed.

Thanks for the information everyone.. Do you really think open or closed vents shows a performance difference?
Did 1le's have this dash?

my 84 sport coupe is a non a/c car, and also has the ***** under the dash for vents.
as what jim said, every non a/c car came equipped like this.
the spoiler may have been an option on this car. the car have it's rpo sticker in the console? if so, use the rpo decoder to determine what the car originally came with.

Had that setup in my 84 Z28. I had no AC, and I REALLY miss the floor vents!!! Great on the highway in the summertime.... memories....
Heres the deal that I found out while checking out an 89 Non A/C firebird at a junkyard for its "dummy pulley"(pulley sits in place of where the Compressor would have been) for my non A/C project. These non A/C cars did come with the side vents blocked off and the left/right handles under the column. The handles are connected to cables that connect to an airbox thats located under the dash on the left and right upper corner of the firewall. The airboxes had a hole to get air from. A/C cars dont have these holes cutout. These airboxes are just that: vents to let in outside air to the floor/cabin area. The only performance gain is in the foot cooling action. Pretty cool option. I have a set of cables/trim etc to go under the column. Just got to figure out what to use them for instead of vents. STEVE Z
As Jim85 said, all non-AC equipped Camaros came with this setup. I had that on the first car I ever owned, an 85 Z-28. It was actually a pretty cool option, since in the winter i would just open those vents, and trhe heat was lethal lol. My car now has AC and the heat is nowhere near as powerful as my 85 *shrugs*

My 85 Sport coupe is AC delete and it only has the center vents and the floor air vents that open through the handles that you pull below the steering wheel.

Wow, no AC, no radio, no rear defrost, no cruise control, manual windows. Did that car come with any options? Also, since it has no radio, how does the passenger side fender look where the antenna would be?

Can you post a pic of the sail panel area, I haven't ever seen one with solid plastic, and I think it would look better, even with a speaker there.
imstress, look under http://www.zalimas.com/ZMODS/SALES.html for your cables etc... Thanks, STEVE Z
My V6 84 Firebird was like like that (that i just stripped for parts) it had no a/c, no rear defroster,no cruise, no tilt, no delay wipers, no rear spoiler, no power anything, no trip odometer, no gauges just a 85 mph speedo and a big gas gauge, 5 speed manual.
but it had factory t-tops and had basically the same dash set up as the camaro shown.

That must have been how the non-ac cars were set up back then.
My friends 90 1le has the vents on the driver and pass side. And his came with the standard am/fm cassette. However he has no ac, no rear defrost, base trim interior, and all the goodies a 6000 mile 1le would have.

Yep, my car is also exactly like that, It did come with the am fm radio tho, so it had the dash speakers, but no space for the rear speakers, had those installed later. I do have the rear defrost tho.

i dont think those vents make it perform better. all they do is take outside air and vent it into the cab. i had those on my 80 dodge and my 83 ranger. i dont think it goes into the motor compartment at all. i could be wrong but i dont think i am.

Like I said, I was trying to go to that website as i had it saved in my FAVS.
The site used to have a Formuls that was sporting a mix of parts from many different years.
Now the site is all porno, I was hoping to find the car again, so did a web search.
And this thread showed up in google, LOL.
