Hey guys, I have my whole dash frame removed cause I'm installing a new wiring harness. Anyways when I'm done I really don't want to put the stock dash back in due to the huge number of squeaks and rattles coming from inside it once its installed. Anyway I came up with this idea. Guys let me know if You find something wrong or have any suggestions. All feedback is welcome!

Well my idea is to construct a dash shaped like half an ellipse out of stainless steel, aluminum, and rubber pads. I will start out with a frame out of stainless steel beams (1.5inches wide, 1/4 inch tall). It will make a lattice of the desired shape. Then on top of the lattice I would glue thin rubber pads to minimize rattles and rubbing. For each square of the frame I would cut a piece of an aluminum sheet and bolt it onto the frame.

Thats the basic idea, sorry I dont have pics but I will hopefully by the weekend (my bro is really good with 3D Studio Max and Maya). I would like any feedback at all. Has anybody done anyting like this before?

I will take measurements when I get home this weekend and hopefully make a small frame section to show you guys what I mean. It looks real cool in my head.

as long as you mount it to the dash nice and tight and it made from alum. you shouldn'd have any rattles. I know you can buy one piece fiberglass dashes,,,maybe you should cheack that out too.

No you guys didn't understand what I was trying to say. I'm going to replace the WHOLE dash frame (the part where all the HVAC tubes are routed) with an aluminum frame. I was thinking of bolting the top to the piece of metal right at the base of the windshield and the bottom to the metal bar that runs through the footwells.

I would really like to know if anybody did something like this (on a 3rd-gen, stang, Honda, whatever...) and maybe duplicate. I'm going to draw up a schematic and try to scan it and post it tomorrow.

jcurrieirocz, you mentioned one piece fiberglass dashes, you wouldn't happen to have any more info on that would you?
