Megashifter question

I searched .. and i could only find one person who did this (Mark Shields) ... how well does the megashifter work with the stock cable? I dont really want to swap it out unless i have to. Any experience w/ the stock cable or suggestions as to why i should use the B&M one?

Thanks

it gives u the new cable for a reason, if not they wouldnt give it to u, i thought when i put mine in.."why waste my time puttin a new cable in this old one is fine" ya i didnt get out of my court before it broke...take the extra 15 mins and install the new cable, also im very disappointed with the megashifter, it didnt line up properly and hit my console on the downshifts, also it is hard to down shift..it is not worth $187....i almost wanna put my old shifter in.... thats my opinion and im stickin to it

Your better off selling those ramps on a garage sale. There aren't too many cars anymore that will go up them.

Heh yeah i use the 3 ton jack and jack stands .. I got another question for ya, where is the shift cable connected on the tranny? (Im not near my car and not much of an automatic transmission man) and how much of a PITA is it to swap without a lift? Also ive heard of the b&m cables wrapping around the driveshaft... how do i remedy this?

Thanks again

ull see it once your under there, i had mine on tire ramps and i did fine only got minimal dirt in my eyes, its on the left side of the trans, its the only cable so that narrows it down, theres a metal bracket thats held on with 2 bolts in the pan, also theres a bolt that holds a bracket and the cable on the trans..all u need is a 15mm socket..maybe a 14mm and a rachet..its simple pretty self explanitoy, as far as the cable gettin wraped around the drive shaft..not had a problem yet, if u need help puttin it on if u dont understand something drop me a IM at CamaroDriver89RS or email me at Harox3dirtjumper@aol.com im usually near a comp

While we're talking about the megashifter. Does anyone know why the console model won't the 88-92 formulas? Just wondering...

From what i have seen the formulas have a little different console than the normal birds and the camaros. you can still put a megashifter in, just not with the custom console.

A friend of mine has on in his 85, he loves it and i love it when i drive it. the cable took me 10 minutes to replace, easy as pie. and it does not loop arrond the driveshaft.

yes its only for autos, its really just apperance, but it doesnt allow u to shift through all 4 gears or 3 if u have a 3 speed trans, and i dont recommed buying one for the $187 they cost its not worth it

Yeah .. i would definately recommend anything Hurst over it but i got a hell of a deal on this so im going with it. My kickdown is not functioning properly so in order to accelerate at a decent speed i downshift to second gear at stops and up shift from there. The stock shifter only has a piece of plastic stopping you from pushing the shifter all the way up to reverse and nothing stopping you from doing a neutral drop.. it just is a little safer if ya gotta shift.
