check all of each fender. paintjob can cover up rust pretty good visually but underneath it can be very bad. look for bubbling or loose feeling metal. tap all around the fenders, if it sounds dead or like its gonna break it has rust. also check the floorpans.

alright, yeah it is my uncles but i will check into it myself, i can get it for free, the paintjob is good, but there are spots where it is chipped paint and whatnot, but my main worry is underneath.. and if thats ok the biggest thing is the engine and other stuff. thanks for the help.

It's free. Take it. What are you looking at rust for? Are you going to tell your uncle that it's not nice enough and he should give you a better car?

But to answer your question- check the floorpans, the rear wheelwell lips, open the hatch and look at the bottom of the hatch for rust. Also look under the spare tire.

When you look under the hood, on both the right and the left, the top of the struts are mounted there, covered by plastic caps. It likes to rust underneath the plates. Sorry i couldnt get a picture and explain better, but i am literally falling asleep at the keyboard.

Even though it is free, he probably wants to be able to determine if it is worth putting any money into. I got my Camaro for free, and I had my dad look it over to make sure that there was no massive body damage that would make it unsalvageable.

open the doors and look at the under side of them, and if your under the hood check out under the a/c fan box, its one the passenger side all the way to the left aginst the firewall. leaves and other stuff collect under there and help the rust... i've got a hole big enough to put my fist thru on my camaro
