OK, I bought new armrest form a guy online. They are NOT the type with the line running through it. They are the 1 piece armrest just like my old 89 armrest. They don't fit. The top part that bolts in front of the door handle is longer, so the bolts are too short to reach the threads. Also the two lower bolt holes are positioned just a little differently than the two holes on my door. I had to literaly STRETCH the handle about half an inch to make'em fit. Finally, the top portion that bolt to the doorhandle area, is smaller in diameter so the metal behind the black door lock/handle trim piece is exposed.

The color is slightly off, so I'm gonna keep looking, but I just wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone knows what I'm talking about. Does this sound familiar to anyone? There is no doubt that this is a completely different part. I should look for a part number.

What color are you lookin' for? Mine are a greyish/tan color. Too much grey for my doeskin, but if you're lookin' for grey, they probably won't do for you either. Ever see the 4th gen "nuetral" color? That's what they look like.

Black would work for me, at least for now, but ideally I'd like doeskin, so anyone who has seen doeskin armrests for sale....you know where I am!!!

I replaced the peeling set on my '90 GTA with a pair from an '84 or '85 'bird. They look different and the handle part was a little shorter overall by about 1/8" but they still fit with a little coaxing.

The '84 or '85 pair has a line along the side and the handle, the rubber is a smaller diameter at the top of the handle than the handle itself is wide, and there's a plastic washer underneath the top of the handle. My original pair has a much thicker handle, no line down the side, and the part at the end of the handle is a much larger diameter so that it doesn't need the washer. (This must sound like hell, I'm bad at this).

I have an idea to fix up my originals, I really should work on that...

 

I have 85 camaro armrests in my 88. Everything fit perfect.

 

this also happened to me with my 89. I made them work but seeing that bare metal in behind is unsightly and irritates me...
