will this guage cluster work?
i have an 85 t/a and i dont know if it has a cable driven or not. i found a guage cluster that looks just like mine but the speedo goes up to 120 and its not cable driven. also is it possible to set the milage on it? like can i change the milage on the new cluster to the milage on my old cluster? and how hard are they to swap? thanks

If it is an '85 cluster, then it will have a cable-driven speedometer.. Firebirds recieved an electronic speedo from 86-92. The 86-88 units were a electronic unit that still used the nylon gears (instead of the magnetic pickup style introduced later). You can switch out your cable driver speedo setup, but it's a pain in the @ss from what I hear (i believe there is a tech article somewhere however).. I would say forget it...

I swapped my 85 cable driven cluster to an electric. Yes the odometer can be reset. I reset mine. The swap is not easy as the clusters are very different and the guage locations are different. You will need to "cut and paste" to get the signals in the correct place.
how did you reset your odometer? the only thing I can see to do it efficiently, is to attach it to a drill, and spin the numbers over 1 mil miles back around to the desired number. (if you spin it backwards it catches every 10 or 20 miles and you have to jiggle it)

If you take out the spdo, remove the needle and face plate you will see the numbers with a pin running through them. Release one end of the pin, lift up, spin the numbers to what you want and set the pin back in place. It's a little trickie getting all the numbers to line up but not bad. Make sure you note the location of the needle before you take it off.
