Flush handle update...

A couple of people have asked me for an update so here goes nothing. Almost literally. I decided my rust-free Arkansas doors were too dented up to use, so I ordered a set from a guy in North Carolina. Well, they took over a month to arrive due to shipping problems and when they came, the driver's side had some rust. I contacted the seller, who was really cool and shipped out a replacement door at no cost to me- not even shipping. To ship it fast, instead of truck freight he tried UPS. It was mangled beyond repair when it arrived- bent in 5 places. I haven't heard back about the insurance claim.

The pass side door is nice so I trimmed the handle section with a cutoff wheel (I cut it out of the car originally with tin snips). I also cut a small section out of the door so the handle would recess into it, just so I could lay the new piece on top and make it almost flush. I just need to trace around the new section and cut a hole in the old door the same size and weld it in.

Anyone in Chicagoland have a nice driver's door??? And so the project drags on...

If you've never seen my car in person, you don't know how right you are.

Looks interesting, the stock door handles don't look all that good IMO......

Are you planning on painting the handles body color??

FLYNLOW: Yes, they'll be body color. The handle in the pic is a different color than the surrounding metal because they came from 2 different cars. The are both red on the driver's side.

BTW: Your paint job came out nice.

GOOD LUCK getting a claim from UPS, they will Deny it untill you are blue in the face. Even though it was insured. There is a Class action Lawsuit in the works now against them for this very thing.

UPS SUCKS!!!

bluepastu: actually, they are 99 Grand Prix door handles.

okfoz: the seller says UPS isn't responding. I'll just absorb the loss and part the door out (it had power windows & locks and when I take the door ding strip off, I'll have a complete set that I can sell). Oh well. F UPS. I'm glad Dale Jarrett crashes every week.

I had good luck getting a damaged dash pad replaced.

Those handles will look sweet.

Firebird 383, 95 handles are what I installed on my 87 camaro. I like the square shape handles on the camaro. But I still like the job u did to yours on the bird... guess because of the nose
