'83 T/A Gauge Cluster Reinstallation: SOS
Hello All!
I am helping my son put back together a '83 Trans Am. It has a mechanical speedometer. I am having a heck of a time getting the gauge cluster back in and connected.
I think the two electrical connectors will mate to the cluster once the cluster is screwed down. The speedo cable is another story. There is absolutely no slack in the cable, and apparently it snaps in somehow.......but how I am not sure.
So what I would like to know is this: What is the right way, the easiest way, to reconnect the gauge cluster and still have a functional speedometer. Space is definitely at a premium in this dash layout.
Any and all help gratefully accepted!!!

If you can, disconnect the cable from the tranny, feed a little more into the car, attach the cable to the cluster, put the cluster in while taking up the slack and re-attach the cable to the tranny.
You may have finished by now but, First I screwed in the gauges without the cable connected. Next I removed the lower driverside panel (The one with the fuse panel and ECM connector covers). Finally I wiggled my hand up and pushed the cable in from the back. It really was not that hard at all. And before anyone says I have small arms, I am 6'2' 200 lbs., there's nothing small about me.
