Location of Headlight Relay
Hey Guys Dave here, I have removed my pop up headlights on my 89 Formula becuase I had to take off the Front end to get repainted. Well anyways I hooked both headlights my other 89 Bird and both headlight motors work fine. SO I take off the insulution or whatever module right next to the radiator and put that on my other firebird, also works fine. Now I know there is two more Relays, one for each headlight, But where are they? I think one is above that Rochester canister vacumme thingalong the pass. side of the engine bay, and I have no clue where the other one is. If you guy's could point these out to me it would be awesome.
Also I noticed how much room I have in the fender area, I'm thinking bout running a pvc pipe or somethign threw it and scooping some more air to get to the intake canister. And also drilling a few holes in the side of the canister or something. Whatcha think bout that too?

There are no independant relays for the headlights on an '89 'bird. There is only the headlight relay module on the firewall. It is roughly a 3"x3" black box with 2 harness plugs on it next to (on the left of) the brake booster on it's own little bracket. The only relay I can think of next to the radiator is for the elec. fan on a dual fan setup.

so the 85-up are not like the 82-84 ones that have the relay at each motor and the third one next to radiator on pass side of it ??
my 82 has three, just look down next to the motors on side of motors closest to radiator youll see the black relay for each, follow the wires

BTS.. that is the relay for the driving lamps only on a t/a.
Fast.. you are correct, 85-up got revised to the single unit relay module.
mav.. the module should be located in the red circle and look similar to what is in the blue square in the bottom corner below...

Heres the correct breakdown in headlight motor systems used in the 3rd gens:
'82-'83: 4 wires to each motor, 3 relays used in system.
'84-'86: 3 wires to each motor, 3 relays used in system.
'87-'92: 2 wires to each motor, Headlight Control Module used instead of the 3 relays for control.
