Pulling a Frame

anybody have a clue what it will cost to pull upper frame rails back to spec car has been smacked pretty good but i have been through this before only the last time i needed a new frame rail welded in and it was way over my head this time i just need the frame straightened and will hang the sheet metal and paint it myself just wondering if any one out there has ever had upper frame rails pulled about 3.5 inches control points mesure correctly in a straight line but off 3.5 inches diagonally wich corresponds to the way the whole nose is offset by 3.5 inches

you said they meaure in a straight line so i take your length is fine but when you do your X measure mant your off by abour 3.5 inches which is about 80mm ....are your sure you dont need upper rails , hell or even lower rails . being that far over i'm sure there some buckles some , provided you trammed out from the right points i would take it to a local bodyshop and let them pull it back around for you, pay the extra labor to have them set it up on a measuring system like a shark or genesis, this way you'll get print outs of exactly where the car was and is measurement wise, i know at our shop we get 2.0 to set-up in the clamps and an 1.0 for the genesis. good luck and dont be cheap about it i hate hanging sheet metal on a car thats wasnt done right dont you?

Well, when I crashed and bent my frame, I took it to a local frame-pulling shop, and they wanted 5K to pull it straight.

I was about to give up, when I tried another shop, and they quoted me arounf 1,300 or so. Needless to say, I took my car there right away. Make sure you shop around. they should be able to give you a free estimate anywhere you go.

Good luck!

5K! to pull a frame or fix all the damage... i know in other areas frame time cost more than regular repair time and the techs get a higher rate when they do frame work. thats the way it should i've got a t-bones civic at work thats driven through and they're talking like 6 hrs to pull it. 1300 still seems kinda high, but then your car might've been seriously messed up.

its always good to shop around and if your seriuosly considering a specific shop its good to take minute and talk with tech let him know how the car got hit , and always get a before and after sheet of the specs if at all possible.

Front End-

Built a Camaro and bought the front end complete for $700. and needed nothing else except time. Was a fairly easy job with time , welder(Mig,Tig) the alignment points from the firewall and welding process are straight forward and the fit was actually very good. Takes a sawzall and cutoff tool and a donor car. Learned a bunch abought the const points inside and outside of a Third Gen Camaro to boot. Les

Actually what i should have said is the the control points measure correctly in the horizontal plane but the diagonal measure is off by 3.5 inches kind of hard to visualise but the upper frame rails are parallel with each other they start to bow at or about the strut tower. The only buckling i see is where the impact bar meets the the right engine compartment rail and it just appears to be the flat flanges where the bolts go not the square rail itself. Car took a nasty smack on the right bumper cover right wher the impact bar is and all the enertia was transferred to the impact bar and the engine compartment rail pushing everything including the core support to the left. Fender gap to the drivers door was closed up less than .125 of an inch. The last time i wrecked it i bought a donor front clip and had a body shop put it all back together for me because the upper left rail was wasted and i think the body shop was about 2500 not including the front clip

you could also take it to a tech school and get it done for the price of a box of dunkin donuts..thats how much we charge on any job, and the work comes out professional. one question..how long can you live without a car?
