fix those sagging doors - GP save $$$-couple of kits left!!!

Hi all,

I am looking at getting a group purchase to get the repair kits to fix the upper hinges that cause our doors to sag. Normally they sell for $80 per door but with a group purchase of 10 people I can have a similar kit made but at a cost of $80 for both doors.

These will not have grease fittings so won't last a lifetime but hey my originals lasted 14 years without them.

Please reply in thread if interested and I will contact you or send email to hingerepair@ccfbg.com Should have pics soon of product and demonstrating how to install.

Let me know if you are interested.
thanks
Scott

The ones I got from Third Gen Solutions are awesome. It takes nothing to shut the doors now, even the wind will blow them shut (on a really windy day). They close even easier than the doors on my dad's new truck. IMO every thirdgen should invest in these. I was skeptical at first and didn't want to pay the $160 for it, but it was well worth it. No more squeaky or hard to shut doors. I only wish I could have gotten in on this GP rather than paying full price....

Hi all,
The group purchase is a go. We got more than the 10 people needed just over the weekend. If you want in on this and you haven't responded yet then today is the last day. For all those who have responded, you've got mail.

Thanks for making this happen

Hey Everybody,
It looks like we will have a couple of kits leftover and I will sell them first come, first serve for the same price. $80 plus $4 shipping to do both doors. Yes, both doors. These won't last long as we were looking for 10 people and ordered 25 kits and only have a few remaining. Get em while they are hot. Kits are ready to ship on Friday so don't delay.

wow, response has been overwhelming, everytime I get a kit come available I get 3 responses instantly.

If there is enough demand I can order more of these. Deal would still be $80 for kits to do both doors.

Please reply in thread or to my email at hingerepair@ccfbg.com.

Let me know if it is worth doing it again.
thanks

These hinge repair kits are not being supplied by ANDYZ28 (aka Automotive Hinge Solutions, Inc. 3rdgensolutions.com, www.ANDYZ28.com)

I currently have a Patent Application pending in the U.S. Trademarks and Patent Office. Manufacture or sale of these "copy" kits is not authorized by me, and is in fact illegal.

Is it a copy or a different design?
I bought a greasable set from ANDYZ28 and it works great- but really expensive for what it is. This other set seems over-priced too.
If it violates ANDYZ28's patent, thats not cool. Patent process is complicated and time-consuming and patent holder should be protected.--just my opinion (and most likely, the court's)

That's why I asked who was providing the kits. I was hoping it was Andy since I know his stuff is quality. He went through the trouble of comming up with this solution so he should be the one to bear the fruit of his labor.
Knock offs are a :nono:

I have emailed Andy directly to get details and we will hash it out between us. Definitely no intention to violate a patent and I don't believe that it does. My kits are not made of the materials that Andy's are and I have explained the differences to those that have inquired. The kits are also not the same, nor did I say they were and in fact for all those that requested information a picture of my product was sent.

We will update you on the discussion at a later point.

thanks

Mr. Dude_1---
I think you CAN make one exactly like the patent but you cannot sell it- or even give it away to someone else. For your own use only. But if it is substantially different , no worries. Also remember that andysz28 makes the non-greasable style too and GM must have a patent on the OE style repair kit.

I think its a cool idea, but your exocution of it was poor. It is a very bad idea to start a GP for a product that is in direct competion with one of our sponsors ( Top Down Solutions). It lacks a little bit of professionalism.

FYI-

As far as patents go, it all depends on whether Andy has a design, or a utility patent. A design patent protects his exact design of the part, where as a utility patent protects the "idea" of the part. IE-greasable kit where the stock on is not greasable.

As far as it being illegal to copy Andy's designs, until the patent is issued, ANYONE can copy it and it would not be illegal. And it is a long process to get a patent. And most generally patent applications by small business entities are rejected on the first try, so this also adds to the length of time to get a patent issued.

Then if someone did copy the parts after the patent was issued, it's not likle a cop is going to come to your door and arrest you for doing it. For patent infringement it involves attorney's and lots of money. I know this by first hand involvement of infringement of one of my patents.

And, by law, if the part is patented and Andy wants to claim patent rights, he must put the patent number on each package. And if it's patent pending, he can state that, but it's just for information only. It's also illegal to state patent pending if a patent application has not been filed. But, all you need to do to make it legal is fill out the application, write a check, and drop it in the mail box to be able to claim "patent pending". But again, patent pending has no legal power to stop anyone from copying the part or design.

Go here to read about patents.

Machinists had some good information on Patents. It is true that there is nothing to protect the manufacture and sell of a copy of a patent pending product. Also if someone were to copy a patent the patent holder has to file a "Cease and Desist" to the manufacture who is infringing. It really is a nightmare and may not even be worth the cost of attorny fees to follow through. The other thought I had on this was in order to be issued a patent there has to be some unique combination of things in your design over existing designs. Now I don't know what all the diferrences are in ANDYZ28's pins but just adding a grease fitting will not qualify as a unique patent. It would have to do something in a way that no other hinge fittings that have been manufactured have or do, pretty tough. Its virtually impossible to patent a common item and hinges and pins have been around forever in many different forms. So if someone can take a product (that is not already patented) and make it cheaper and out sell the first guy who thought of it, well thats simple capitalism and completly legal.

These pins are not the same as the ones being supplied by ANDYZ28. Without going into detail, I'd hold off on buying these until further discussion has been made on these boards by the people who have already bought them.
