Started my 4th gen dash install. Pics inside
Today was an awesome day so I decided to at least start the 4th gen dash install. I wanted to get it off of the back hatch and into the car and clear up some space.
The dash is only held on by the 2 bolts under the steering column and one screw on the top of the pass side of the dash.

Thanks.
Car isn't running yet. We actually took the motor apart the other day. I had the LT4 Hot Cam in there and I didn't really want it so we took it out and put it in my brothers 96 Trans Am since he was putting on some ported heads.
He's going to get me a CC305 or 306 cam to replace my LT4 Hot Cam.

Since you have everything apart, why don't you paint the red pieces black so when you open the door, its black not red. Seems would be able to do a lot of that and not have to take stuff apart later. Just an idea, btw the hood on the formula looks sweet.

My wife keeps telling me she want me to do the 4TH gen dash swap in our IROC-Z.
Looks like WAY to many wires though... ugh.
Also, the speedo working with '87 cable stuff.....

Ya, the 4th gen dash looks like an inch shorter on each side.
I'll probably paint the red parts black soon.

In the video, that exhaust was a Pacesetter 3" Stainless steel catback with Dynomax Shorty Headers and a 3" Hi-flow Cat.
The Catback came right off of a 95 Trans Am vert.

That many wires scares me, thats why i havnt tried it yet. Is the 4th gen dash a direct bolt up replacement?
There looks like a lot of wires since that is the stock wiring and the 4th gen dash wiring, which most aren't going to be used. Just have to sit down and start eliminating them. The dash is really close to a direct bolt in, but not 100%.
what kind of rims and tire's are those and whats the size's?
The wheels on my car are OZ Racing Monte Carlos, 17x9.5 with BFG G-Force T/A KDW 275/40/17. These will eventually find thier way onto the 88 Formula
What are your plans for making the HVAC controls work??
Car will have no HVAC at all. I took out the heater box and everything hvac related. Car isn't going to be a daily driver, more of a weekend race car

Thats awesome man, if my car was black I would be doing the triple black as well but its white so, who knows, maybe still.
Do you have a pic of your car right now? I would love to see it. Email or PM me or something.

I didn't even bother to see if I could get the hvac controls to work.
I ripped out the airbox inside the car along with the hvac controls.
The Rims I have aren't available anymore, so they are quite hard to find.
This is what the car looks like right now, except the front is sitting really low with no springs installed,

I think you should name that car "Turnpike" Cause it reminds me of the PA Turnpike... Always under construction yet never completely functional. I'd like to see the finished product before my kids are having kids. Keep us updated.

97 was the last year of the LT1 in the F-body and 96 was the last year of the LT1 in the Vette.

Why such a short production run on the LT1? 92-97 (Vette in '92)... When TPI was 85-92?
Seems like they put a lot of tech into it, only to drop it.
I wish that Chevy/GM would've done something like they did in the 80's... Give engine choices. In 98 I would've liked to have seen the options of LT1 or LS1 in the F-Body.
Would've been neat. Part of the allure of certain cars for me is that not everyone knows exactly what engine is in it...

camless is coming...an instructor at my school is an ex drag racer,he holds like 10 world records in nhra nitro funny cars , his anmes mike jones, he's an older guy. but he knows people everywhere,he knows about all new cars that come and and motor crap. and he says in like 10 or so yrs they'll come out w/ sumthin that has variable valve timing and controlled my solenoids or sometihn like that..
there is a rumor running around that the Z06 will get a camless engine... it will be run by electric solinods to control the valve... only problem is the HUGE power draw. BMW tried it a few years ago, but they had power problems... After the rumor about the c6 vette getting the camless engine came out, about 14 people were fired from the corvette team... makes ya wonder? also this was around the same time that motor trend came out with there pics of the c6 that apperently they got like 400 phone calls from the vette team asking where they got thoes pics and that there gunan sue if they print it.... oh well...
