don't know about the area but depends on how many dings/dents you have for the strip and prep work. I would say around 1500 to strip and prep, and look at another 3000 for a really good paint job. So about 4000 - 4500 for a really good paint job. For a factory paint job you could go down to 1800 for paint and probably 1000 strip. 2800-3000 for a good paint job. Like everone says do prep work your self and save the $$$$, unless you want a show paint job. You may want to post on the regional board to find specific places.
Why do you want to strip the car, how bad is the paint pealing.

i would rephrase that.

because everyone knows, most shops just see yours as another car and they wont give it the same attention to detail you will.
now there are shops that DO care about each car they do. these shops cost more then your car is worth. even if your car is fuggin perfect.
not to mention, i wouldnt want a 5k+ paint job on the street. i would be WAAAY too pissed when someone dings my paint.

I don't think you would have to completly stirp the car to get a good cover on it. You are going to have to do alot of sanding. I would strip the hood insert completly, the nose. And sand and feather the rest. Unless you are going for a show quality job. Primer the car once the old stuff is smothed out, and then changing color shouldn't be a problem.
I have to strip my car when I paint it next, I wasn't smart the last paint job was enamel.
