center console installation process?
can somebody give me step by step instructions for installing a 4th gen center console into my car (along with the removal of the old one). some people posted in the exhaust thread which helped me a lot in the installation of my exhaust system. it would be great if someone wrote a step by step for center console installation. thank you1!:hail: :hail: :hail:

Remove Shift ****: Auto, use needlenose pliers to take out C-clip on the front of the shifter. Manual - I don't know
Remove Screws retaining the shift plate, there's 2 under the console armrest and there's one under the ashtray. Remove Power window switches from harness. If you have power mirrors, slide the switch out, but don't disconnect from the harness. Pop the shift plate out. Remove cigarette lighter by unplugging it.
Remove e-brake handle, one screw on the drivers side.
Remove two 10 mm bolts inside the storage bin near the back.
There should be one more 10 mm bolt under the shift plate, its screwed into the shifter.
Pull e-brake as high as it goes. Pull rear of console out first, and slide it out.
Suggestion: Vacuum what you couldn't see before, I found 10 years worth of french fries and loose change.
You should have gotten a manual 4th gen console.
Cut the two tabs in the front off w/ a hacksaw, because your car has nothing to attach it to.
Put it in the same way you removed the 3rd gen one, using the e-brake hole as your guide. You may have to move your auto shifter over by 1/2", I did. If so, loosen the bolts and slide the shifter over and tighten bolts.
Align the two holes inside the storage bin to your old holes. Use the original 10mm bolts.
Pull your window switches thru the ashtray and make some sort of plastic template to put there to hold the switches, use the old shiftplate as your guide.
Wire up your 4thgen lighter(s) (I had a 2000 that had 2 of them, one for the lighter and one for accessories)
Install the shift plate. Screw it down. Pop in your window switches.
Install shift **** and ebrake handle.
Shine it up w/ your favorite Vinyl/Leather cleaner.
Should look like this when you're done. (You don't have to remove the seats, I just took this pic when I steam cleaned my carpets)
