How do you take this off?

How do you take the piece with the arrow off? I need to take that off including the door panels and stuff so I can replace those triangle window weatherstripping pieces. Also does anyone have any tips or anything that I should know? Thanks.

Mike

if i remember right, door open, window down, you push outward and up at the same time on that black piece, and that piece and the door panel remove at once, im not 100% positive though. i read it in numerous posts through this board, and it stuck in my head

I hope I dont break anything. The door panel is held in by those plastic screw clips right?

correct. The door panels are heald in by white clips. To remove the black plastic piece above the panel, you have the door open, window down, and push outward, and up. The piece is held in by 3 or 4 clips that are molded into the trim. It will require some force to get it out. This is the way to remove it, trust me I have done it many many times, and have never broken anythign doing it.
good luck

window **** has a snap snap ring kinda thing holding it on. YOu can work it off with some needlenose pliers. push on the doorpanel and look at where you need to spread it, get the needlenose in position, spread em, and push. It'llprobably take a few tries. if needlenose doesn't work for you, try using two small flat screwdrivers.

Nooo....that piece is held on by small nuts. It has plastic tabs on it. If you just pull it, you will break your door panel. It is some kind of heavy cardboard.

First off---if you ever plan on removing a door panel again, spend the $4 and buy a window crank clip remover. Easy as pie, slide it right behind the crank parallel with the lever arm, clip pops right out. As a bonus, the other end usually has a flat bend and you can slide it behind your door panel and use it to pop out the white plastic clips. They're in any decent auto place, usually in the "Help" section, where all the little Jesus clips, springs, window crank handles, etc, etc are. Some Wal-Marts even have them.

I'm not implying anything about your mechanical abilities, but mainly because I'm a little thick and did this wrong myself 1000 years ago, when you replace the crank handle, don't do what I did and try to put the clip back on after you slide the crank in place. You'll feel like a monkey trying to **** a football. Put the clip onto the crank handle BEFORE you slide it back on, if you do it smoothly and firmly, it'll click right back on.

By the way, above poster mentioned the top plastic trim being attached to cardboard with nuts, yep. Treat it with a little respect, it's not the best design.

This is one of those jobs where you benefit big time if you can tear one apart at the boneyard first. Damn, I hate learning the hard way----when you're staring at broken pieces of plastic in your bloody hands, with tears in your eyes, saying "NOW I see how it works".

I just today finished putting my door back together after a friend replaced the window motor for me. While I had it apart I futzed around getting rid of rattles and lubing the **** out of the lock.
Door actually sounds pretty decent when you slam it now.

Good luck. Bring Band-Aids. Inside the doors and under the dash gotta be the two most ***-awful places to work on a car.

I cussed my door panel for about half an hour before I got it to come off! Another tip on the window crank I took a long and skinny flat tip screw driver bent it at like a 30 degree angle about mid way up in a vice. Then take another screw driver pry back the door panel around the window crank and use the bent screw drive to remove the clip. Also like Dean92RS said put the little clip onto the crank and then put it on the door. I tried it the other way around for about 20 minutes till my dad came out there and showed me to put it on the crank first. lmao

Damn door panel...I ripped the cardboard but once you put everything back on it looks fine. As for the window crank...I read in the Haynes that it required the hooked window crank removal tool thingy...so all I did was bend an extra key ring I had on my keychain into a little hook and it came right out. The key ring was just strong enough to not lose its shape...so don't try it with a paper clip or something.

My triangle piece is bolted to the door. There are 2 bolts best as I can remember.

Remove the arm rest and the door lock and handle panel. Pull the door panel way from the door. There are 10 (?) of those push in type nylon feathered fasteners. If you pull too hard, those fasteners will tear through the cardboard and stay in the door. You can get them out, though. Then, to get the panel off, rotate the panel to about 45 degrees then push in on that black trim and pull up at the same time. Once the panel is off then remove the speed nuts on the back of the black trim.
