Carpet Stain Removal

I have a huge dark brown stain in the passenger side of my 87 Firebird. I have a feeling it might be that someone either had something metal in there and left the windows open in the rain or they spilled a pot of black coffee. It was there when I bought the car. I have tried several different stain removers on it, but it won't come out. I think that there's something similar on the driver's side as well. I should probably remove my seats and change the padding, but I need it on the road so I won't at this time. Any suggestions would help.

Re: Carpet Stain Removal

The dark spot may be from the heater core leaking. If so, resolve that problem before the carpet problem.

What I use is Greased Lightning that comes in a gallon jug. I use it about a 70/30 mix. 30% being water. This is VERY strong. Do not leave it on the spot for more than a minute or two....

What you do is put it in a spray bottle and spray it driectly into the stain. Get a scrub brush and work it in one direction, then work it in a cross pattern then in a circular pattern. Afterwards take an old rag and absorb the cleaner out of the carpet. It should look like new... If not get some spray carpet/fabric dye from Pep Boys. Its like $5 a can and if you take your time you will never know it was done.

About how many containers of that dye would it take to do my whole carpet? I've been thinking of redoing the entire interior in black. I've already done the rear plastic, but I think I shoul dredo it, and I was wondering how much of a hole in my pocket just dyeing the carpet would make. Also, the spot seems a little close to the passenger's seat to be the heater core, and I ran that all the rest of the winter after I bought the car and had no problems that I could see. The spot seems like someone dropped something like a lot of coffee out of their laps onto the carpet. Not much at all is actually in the passenger footwell.

u will need 3 or 4 cans of dye. The stain may be soda pop or coffee but that greased lighning should get it out.
