The Camaro and early Firebird consoles are actually pretty good. They seem to be in good shape whenever I visit the junk yards.
Now lets talk about the crappy 1985-1992 Firebird console. This thing looks great. Has a nice feel (when new) but they split after a few years. A Fiberglass one would be more than welcome in my book. I would gladly buy one if it were available.
I know there are companies that can make them. But I am unsure on the cost. And a mold would have to be made.

I've been playing with the idea. It would only cost about 60 for the base and what ever material u cover it with or paint it. You would need some basa wood and some metal plates. Make a mold out of the basa and glass in the metal plates at all mount points. The hard part is doing the top and it looking right, especilly if its a automatic, well it stoped ranning so I am going to finish my bushing install.

What sort of console are you thinking of? Not to discourage you from doing a custom one, but there are other options. If you want something with more curves that's less boxy, you may want to consider a 4th gen console. Consoles from other cars have also been made to fit with a bit of work.
If you're still set on fiberglass, you may want to check out this website. It shows the construction of an alpine show car with a custom fiberglass interior. http://ecominet2.alpine-usa.com/html...cura_home.html
I would use MDF to create the sides and frame, as well as any flat part and mounting point.
The real question is what sort of appearance and function do you want out of the console?
