I'm looking for an unusual part

On my 87 Firebird, I have one decal, not a matched set. The decal says "Fuel Injection" and is installed on the door handle. Like I said, I only have one, and am looking for a matched set. I have looked in two online catalogs, YearOne and Classic Industries, and have not found them. I guess they are pretty rare. I am looking to match the set with another one. I have been to the local junkyard that actually has thirdgens, where they only have ONE (hard to believe, ain't it?) fuel injected Camaro. This car is the Camaro version of mine, which has the V6 and does not have the decals. I am going to take a few pics tomorrow and post them.
I am also looking for a center cap for my 15" rims. I have three of them, but the fourth was lost as the prev owner moved up here from Alabama. They are painted silver, are bolted on with a bolt or machine screw set in about 3/4" from the outer edge, and have a chrome-plated logo in the middle that says "AR". I have heard from several people that these are American Racing rims, but I have extensively searched their site for any type of picture archive or order form that shows that I can get one from them. If you wonder what they look like overall, they are very similar to the Chevrolet center caps that were on the Camaro, they have sort of a hex-headed design in the center, which is raised out from the rest of the cap. Again, I will post pics tomorrow so everyone can see what I am talking about.

decals

I beleive the decals your hunting for are not a stock item, but a accessory that the automotive aftermarket produced. I haven't seen them in recent years but they used to be pretty popular (along with the plate that went around the key lock also). You may want to look through the J. C. Whitney catalog. Good Luck!

I've seen them stock on many 84ish Firebirds.

My '92 Camaro RS said "CAMARO" on the door handle - I'm pretty sure it was factory.

My Trans Am has the Fuel Injection door handles. It is a factory item. The best place I say to look is the junkyard. I have seen a couple Firebirds at the local junkyard with the FI door handles.

The fuel injection sticker is stock. A friend of mine bought his in 1987 and still has it. His car is equipped with those handles.

You might be able to get one at the junk yard, but I have never seen any there. The fuel injected cars get stripped probably the same day they arrive at the yard. Most of the cars I see intact are carb cars.

Ebay is probably your best bet.

Those fuel injection stickers were stock for a few years, but I'm not sure what years.
here's a shot of my 86 T/A's door(which are both for sale).

All they have at eBay is the outer door handle, which has a black label similar to the one on my door handle, but it does not have any wording on it- it's blank. I guess they sell them like that so they are basically the same if you don't want to go original.

Tony- Are you willing to sell both of those labels?

GWHAHAHAH! hey people when it comes to NAYHTING about stickers and such. you can always print them out yourselves. and if you know nothing about computers, just take it down to a sign shop like the one that makes your "i drink 1.8 liters" that goes across oyur front windshield. just a cheap fast way to do this.

Those decals were stock from I believe 82-87 on Fuel injected Firebirds, V6 & V8s apply. They ditched them in 1988 because EVERY f-body from 88+ has FI, so whats the point.

I have several of them, I get from salvage yards, no longer availble from GM. I remember seeing something like that back in the 80's and early 90's in AutoZone when our style door handle was almost universal for GM. But I do not think anyone makes them any more tho ...

My friends 85 305 tpi TA has that door handle too. And like a few weeks ago I found a " fuel injection" door handle decal that was alreads stripe and was in decent condition. So its in my room with all my other decals and what not.

I know this thread has been dead for about a month... but I went to a junkyard this past weekend and saw the fuel injection handles on an 83 or 84 firebird. Someone else posted looking for this same part a while back... if anyone is still interested in them I wouldn't mind helping a fellow 3rd gen owner out. There's a good chance that i'll be back at the same yard this weekend getting a part for a friend's car so let me know if you're interested.

removing them is easy, I just use a pocket knife to get a hold of the sticker, and then pull, never ruined one yet... Although I have some that have de-laminated from age.

My iron duke bird has the Fuel Injection Stickers on the handles. They are "chrome" handles too, not black.

I used to have a "chrome" door guards with a black rubber insert but i took them off and never reinstalled them after painting the car. I still have them and will eventually put them back on I suppose.

later,
bill
