Problems with door spring

Hey everyone, I have done a search already and have not found a good answer on how to get the spring back in the door after replacing the bushings and pin. I did see a mention of a removal tool, but they are easy to take out and a pain to put back in. If anyone knows the secret, let me know please!

I just did this and ended up taking the car over to a local body shop. They charged me $10 to put it in and worked on it for about 20 minutes. You can look here also http://91rsramair.tripod.com/home/id4.html I tried this route but was unseccesful.

I also sell the GM door spring tool . What I do is once I've removed the spring using the door spring removal tool, I loosen the nut until the spring is free of the tool. The I re-install the spring into the tool with the forks of the tool entering the outermost coils of the spring. Then I fully compress the spring until the coils are solidly compressed. This gives me enough room to fit one end of the spring onto the raised button it rests on. Then I pop it onto the other side and hold it in place while I loosen the tool with a wrench. My main problem then is how to free the door spring tool from the spring. I've had to pry the tool free of the screw using a large screwdriver and a rubber mallet sometines.

took me and my dad about 2.5 hrs working on it with a screwdriver and needle nosed pliers just do your self a favor and by the little compressor i got on the next day just in case it has to be done again. Almost died like twice when it was almost there then the little ****er flies out at your eye and you spend 10minutes looking for the dam thing in the dark interior.

yeah I got smacked in the eye with the spring. It hurt more than anything that I can think of. When I was shot in the first gulf war and it didnt feel as bad. Becareful if you are gonna try to pry it or hammer it in with a mallet. i learned the lesson the hard way.

Ha ha. I just cut the spring down. Now the door doesn't 'notch' as tightly. Could be a problem on hills/steep driveways, but I haven't faced that yet.

I plan to get another spring and install it right...someday.

A tip I have used

Compress the spring in a bench vice or with a 6" C clamp with a board on top of the spring.

Take steel wire, not cable, and run it through the spring, twist locking the wire on two sides of the spring. >| |< to lock the spring compressed. Sometimes takes a bit to get it right.

Put spring in door and 'CAREFULLY' cut the wire on one side and then the other.

Poof!
