New Leather Interior ...... Where To Go?

1992 Camaro RS convertible
25th Anniversary
305 TBI

Greetings and Salutations!

My '92 RS convertible has the factory red leather interior. It is originally a south Florida car and consequently the back seats are in need of repair due to sunfading and cracking of the leather.

I plan on replacing the top in the spring as well as the seat covers. I probably will get the top at www.topsonline.com. However they do not have the seat material that I need. I have looked at NextGen as well as The Paddock and a few other places that I cannot recall off the top of my head.

So, what I would like to know is if anyone out there (YOU!) know where or whom sells replacement leather (NOS) factory style seat covers. Or would I just be better off having the upholsterer fabricate new seats (the covers or skins(?))?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

I'd give Hawk's a call...864-855-2694. They have patterns for all the 3rd and 4th gen seats, and could probably come up with the suitable material as well. We just installed a set of their PMD seat covers (in Hampton vinyl, which looks like leather but is more durable and less $), and they fit great.

PMD Seat Covers

Hi,

After I had submitted my post I scrolled down and found your post. The seats look sweet. I like the color combo alot. Probably would not work well on my car as it is ALL red interior, white exterior, and black top. Definitely something to think about.

BTW, is PMD as in Pontiac Motor Division? All other seats are corporate? I haven't heard about that. I also have an '83 T/A and the seats are not like that.

I will have to give them a call and see what they have. I did just go look on their web site and they did not have what I wanted, just the vinyl and cloth. Custom work would be cool.

Thanks for the reply and the nice pictures of the PMD seats.....cool!!

The PMDs were done on a custom basis, so they can do pretty much whatever you want. PMD does stand for Pontiac Motor Division...most of the seats have an enameled emblem in the seatback with the PMD letters, hence the name. In Firebirds they were a 1982-only option (to my knowledge); not all 82 Firebirds had them. There was also a Recaro option, in addition to the standard buckets. Ubtil recently, I thought PMDs were Firebird only, but the red and black ones (originally blue) came out of a 1982 Pontiac 6000 4 door sedan (had to add the folding mechanism from another set of seats), and the brown ones I just bought were in a 1983 Grand Prix. They didn't have the PMD emblems.
