I'm glad someone noticed the silver Bowtie. I've got silver Z28 rocker emblems, a silver rear bumper emblem, and a new nose emblem waiting to be installed.

Since the car was originally red/silver, I wanted to keep some original touches with it. I think it came out really nice. It's not perfect, but I didn't want it to be. It's going to be driven almost daily come summertime.

My interior is pretty bad, but give me a few months and hopefully it will be nice

Thanks for all the comments and I'm glad you guys followed through with this thread! It's been a process since October.

I took some more pics. Cleaned it up and put the parkings lights and side markers in.

This picture shows how "ghost" it is.

I failed emmissions :hail:

Just barely though. If I ran the car hard and drove it to inspection, it would pass with flying colors. But it was only running for 5 minutes

I don't have the money right now for the interior, but keep in touch with me if you still have it in the future.

Just some questions.....

Are you going to paint the headlight pockets black?

New rims in the future? I think that would top it off!

that paint looks awesome man I really like the color and the flames look killer. I do however think it would look better with black headlight pockets and maybe a black grille with the red bowtie. It did turn out really nice though.

The black headlight buckets would ruin it IMO. With any custom style paint you want it to have a matching overall theme, otherwise it would look like the ghost flames are plopped onto the paint. I wanted to get rid of the mid 80's Mustang look and my goal is to "modernize" the car, where as I thought the black pockets showed more of an 80's style.

New wheels are a definite in the future. Its gonna be awhile, since I'm gonna go wild when I pick wheels. They will either be Boyds or Budniks

Even though my cars black anyway, my headlight pockets were also painted the same color as the rest of my car when it was repainted.

ACK! Why can't folks just leave well enough alone. "halo" lamps look completly out of place as a round lamp on a square car in a square headlamp hole, and the one piece lights look cheap IMHO. The nose of the car tapers to a point in the center, and the headlamps are staggered so as to match such, which you cannot do with a one piece lamp. The stock lamps look great, on some things less is clearly more.

I don't care for those 1 piece lights much either. I was thinking about it, so I photoshopped them and had a before and after pic on my desktop for a while and decided I liked the stock look better. Even though the one piece is pretty unique and cool in that sense.

Geeze there r some rounds things on a camaro and bmw's arent exactly very curvy cars also. I think if they were done right they would look like they were made for it.

Who said I was putting in those ugly Halo lights? Read my post again, I'm not putting Halo lights in. I'm putting in Monte Carlo LS lights Just like Fatal88's car. You know, the car everyone drools over.

The one peice lights will have a taper effect to them, Monte Carlo's dont have a flat front end...they taper just like our cars.

car is looking good, but there is something missing... dont know what. If I figure it out, Ill tell ya. I kinda like the black pockets myself. Just something in all one color is odd. I think these cars have very unique lines and darker colors help accent them better, but thats my opinion. Either way, the flames look AWESOME! Job well done. I feel bad Ill never see it now! Maybe we could all meet, or maybe Ill see your car at nats. Good luck with the car man. Keep her clean.

my nose was also painted all the same color (9700 black), and all the satin black is gone except for thedoor handels and locks. even the cowl is going 9700. my car should be all painted this week. its been a long 4 months of work (over 250 hours in body work alone), but well worth it. next i get to start on the motor and 6 speed.

Niiice progress Azzker. I see you've got the same rot problems I had behind the front wheels? It's a shame that these cars are rusting away, but its cool that people like me and you are bringing them back to life.

As I said before I had all new emblems I just need to put them on

yea i had to patch the drivers rear wheel well in several spots by welding in new sheet metal, and had to replace the pass side front rocker portion, and the drivers floor areah around were the rust in the pic is.

here is the pass side rocker.

i also am getting new emblems, i have half of them, trying to locate the rest of them, and get my new gm decals.

thanks
anthony

Yeah, his car is getting pretty close do being done as far as the bodywork and paint. Mine on the other hand is just starting. I have a lot of the paint off of the unibody but have yet to start on the rest of the car. I have the car stripped down already though. I have the complete interior out, the hood and hatch off(getting new hood). I have the motor and tranny out(The motor is going to be rebuilt, and I am getting a spec stage 3 clutch for the t56 while they are out to replace the dual friction).

I have a decent amount of surface rust that was hidden under the gfx, but am working on that. The only rust that I have found that really went through was on the passenger side floorboard. It looks like someone left a leaky heater core in to long because it is only in the front of the passenger side where the passengers feet would be. I am going to have that patched. I was lucky enough to not have those rusted spots behind the front wheels when I pulled the fenders off. Other than under the ground effects(which is mostly surface rust), and the floorboard the car really doesnt have much rust. I believe that the car was garaged most of its life. When I got it the paint was still real nice, and for a 85 which was a bad year for paint(especially blue from van nuys like mine) that is pretty uncommon. This is the third winter that it has been inside though so it hasnt seen snow or salt in quite a while. I had the car parked outside and drove it one winter and the paint started pealing real bad on the hood and was starting on the roof. I have a set of doors w/ power windows locks, and mirrors that will be put on the car when it is painted from an 89 gta. I have the wiring already in the car. The are red, but since I will be stripping them and having them painted that is fine. I have a quite a way to go, but the car should be nice eventualy.

Your car looks awsome now though. I hope mine turns out that well. I am going to try to get pictures of what I have done so far but I guess we will see.

Ben

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. I'm glad everyone likes it. It's red, its called GM 81 Bright Red, it came on the newer Firebirds. It does have alot of "orange" in it though compared to my dads red car.

Oh...and I put the nose emblem and bumper emblem on, it took 2 seconds..

I for one HATE IT!!!!!!! It looks like a 3 year old sprayed it./

j/k - Seriously tho, LOOKS GREAT!

I'm a little torn on the overall color shade though, maybe its the lighting or my monitor but it doesn't look as deep/rich a color as I thought it would.

Yeah I haven't gotten any good pictures outside yet. The flourescent lights inside my garage make the color look different than it really is.

I don't wanna pull all the way out into my driveway for fear that I will get stuck (1 inch of snow, bald rear tires, not good...LOL)
