You just basically take the horn cover off. After that all you need to do is get one of those star bits and take those off and your old steering wheel should slide right out.

As far as aftermarket steering devices, personally I think it'd be cool to install a wooden wheel like ships use to steer with. That way you could imagine you're manning some mighty ocean-roaming vessel rather than a car.

I'm just sayin', is all.

well most of the time you need a puller to remove the wheel as it will be stuck on like a sob. the other option is to leave a couple nust on and pull like hell the bolt protect your smile for when the wheel does finally come loose. with out the bolst in you would be missing part of you smile and be looking for your missing teeth.

As for steering ocean roaming vessels....I'm on one of the mid-size four doors then.

I've spent 20 years on Navy ships and we mostly use solid brass hand wheels. On some of the smaller ships (called Frigates) the hand wheel to steer the ship is no bigger than the palm of your hand. On rare occasions, you will find a wooden one being used.

The big wooden hand wheels are of the masted ships (sail) and some early ocean liners, the Queen Mary, Titanic, Queen Mary II and a few others.

Since I retire next month, the last thing I want to see in my car is a friggin' wooden steering wheel !!
