gauges?

I was kind of toying with an idea in my head for something I'd like to do in the future. I was thinking of replacing all my stock gauges with better ones, and I mean that literally. Take the old ones out and put the new ones in the stock location. Anyone done this? Is it possible? If not anyone fabricated something to hold the new gauges? Just toying with the idea at this point as I am low on money and this isn't high on my mod list, but you know it'd be nice.
