When to part out?

I am not sure where to ask this. I have seen many cars in the classifieds that are being parted out. At what point do you part out a third gen? How bad should it be before you don't save it? I have been through a few parts lots the past few years and have seen complete, undamaged cars being torn apart. I recently saw someones '69 Camaro project and it was little more than a stripped body and rusted. This was obviously a 'part out' but people think it is worth piecing together again. If it was still good then why was it parted to begin with. Is there a line to cross before you part out?

its a personal decision. most part outs are because of accidents, but a lot are due to someone becoming tired of a never ending project and are looking to get out and recoup some of the money invested. ive seen plenty of decent rebuildable cars parted, or even crushed. its sad but if some ppl didnt end up like this some of us wouldnt have nice genuine gm parts for cheap.

it's all in the emotion and memories you have with a car. That and the price to rebuild.

Not all thirdgens that should be parted are....mine just spent 10+ hours on the frame puller. Anything is fixable - just takes time and money.

a lot of times, you can make more money parting out a car than selling it. especially when people have a lot of money dumped into the car. for example, if someone spent $2500 for a nice beefy rear end. the amount they could sell that rear end for is probably a lot more than it's going to add to it's selling price.

im parting out my 3rd gen because i got tired of the pos behind my house. just easier to get rid of the thing. besides my cavilier would have completly destroyed it anyways. the cavilier cost me after everything around $3,200 for a low 14 second car. The T/A wold cost alot more.
