85 T/A headlight motor

Well today I called the dealer and was going to order 2 headlight switches 2 isolator relays and 2 acuator realays but it turnes out that all of these parts are discontinued.

So my question is:

Why do these Companies like Hawks Third Gen or Top Down Solutions Start reproducing these? (B/c I know I not the only T/A with headlight motor problems) I just think it would be a huge money maker

What is the problem with the headlights? The exact problem(i.e. when lights are on, one goes up, when off, both go down)
Exactly what do you need? The relay located on the fender, or the one on the radiator?

I'm asking this cause I have fixed my headlight system on my "85 TA a year ago and I found out the replacing everything doesnt necessarly fix the problem. My main problem was the fusible links blew so no power was sent to the motors to raise them, but one did go down. The other motor was junk though.

Let me know what exactly is goin on and I'll help you as best as I can.

i have the same problem. sometimes my headlights work great, then other times theyllgo up and then fall down or only go up half way. when this happens if you hit the switch a couple of times they work fine. i took apart one of the motors to see if it was the gears but the gear was fine. could it be the relay? you also mentioned two relays?

fyrechikyn: Your car doesnt use the relay system. Your headlights are controlled by a module. The module is located on the driverside firewall next to the brake booster. The modules can fail just like any other part of the headlight system.
But in your case it sounds like a bad headlight switch.

Well a bad switch can have symptoms similair to a bad connection, like sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Other signs are the switch has to be pushed slowly or halfway in order for the motors to operate, or it takes repeated pressings in order to get it to work.

I don't think switches aret all that expensive. If you you can, borrow a known working switch and swap to see if anything happens.

If you need anymore help let me know.

Matt, I can recommend a source for the 1982-86 headlight repair parts.

I manufacture and sell the 207280 headlight repair kit and 209280 Deluxe headlight repair kit for the 1987-92 Firebird headlight actuation units. Fyrechikyn's description of his problem, the headlight bushings have gone bad. My Delrin bushings will solve the problem and last a LOT longer that GM's gel bushings.
