Sylvania Silverstar's, Ultimate Comparison

Regular ole Halogens in the Camaro to the left. Silverstars to the right on the Trans Am.

<img src="http://elite-fraggers.org/sonarun/My%20Car/halogenvssilverstar.jpg">

I left my fogs on by accident on the TA, but you can see the pure whiteness of the Silverstars. I couldn't believe the difference. I didn't even know about silverstars until yesterday. I went out and bought a set today. The difference is incredible. The total cost was $47 or so including tax.

Do yourself a favor and upgrade your crappy lights. I don't drive the Camaro anymore, or I woulda upgraded those lights too. Night vision in the Camaro is horrid.

wow, that's not bad at all. and at about $25 for each bulb, it's fairly reasonable.

whats the model number you used for the headlights? and do they make a set for the fogs?

I agree, they're so much better. I put them on my winter beater and next spring they're definitely going on the GTA.

hey cool! guys i was thinking about getting them, i have some of those euro dezigns 5000k ones, they look brighter then the stock halogens, but i was wondering if the silverstars were brighter then them, could you get a pic of both of them shining down the road? if its not too much trouble

I had silverstars awhile ago, and I really didn't think they were all that much brighter then the bulbs I had before. They do look brighter/whiter when your looking at them, but the light output on the road, to me wasn't much better.

Now that I have converted to an H4 bulb, and the bulbs I have now really light up the road better. Those long back country roads, aren't so dark anymore.

And no I don't get high beamed by other drivers at all, I have them aimed correctly. I know alot of people get aftermarket bulbs, and then don't aim them, so they blind everyone else on the road. I hate when people have their lights shining up into the trees.

The Autozone guy told me they don't make silverstars for F-body pontiacs. How were you able to make them fit???

Yeah, its a direct replacement. H6054's are the bulb you need. Even Hi-Beams work. Took a total of 10 min to install, in the dark.

thats cool. But you know what I really hate when any on coming cars come by me at night. Our cars sit so low to the ground we cant help but get lights in the eyes. . Maybe sometime eventually Ill get some new bulbs after the winter. Im too lazy to put em in in the cold *** winter...

Yeah, espically trucks and SUV's. I get temporarily blinded every time.

In fact, last week I was driving down a real dark road. 2 vehicles passed me by. I was temporarily blinded. Just after they passed, there was a downed tree in the road, right in my lane! I swerved and missed it by inches!

One of the reasons why I got new lights.

When i worked at autohell i looked for a set for my car they are not listed in the computer nor do they sell them they just sell them in the small bulbs like h4 etc. Try pepboys or sometin. I still like my cool blues even tho they are white.

That's awesome! Thanks for the side by side comparison! Pictures are totally worth a 1000 words. I have Sylvania Cool Blue's in my car currently, I'll have to put a set of those in if and when I need new lights!!

Those are really nice lights.
My friend bought a set a year ago when they first came out for his 82.
I think Advance Auto has a special on those lights, $19.99 each and if you buy two, you get the 2nd one for half price and get a $6.00 mail in rebate.

I think firebirds use a different bulb after a certain year. My '91 needs the 4666 one. Look yours up here to be sure:

http://www.sylvania.com/auto/carapp/

Here's something for those of you who have used them for a while now:

"What is the life expectancy of SilverStar?

The life expectancy of a SilverStar halogen light source is dependent on the driver’s use of the lights, which vary by season, time of day and number of miles driven. We estimate the SilverStar halogen lights to have a life span of up to one year under average driving conditions. "

That is straight off the sylvania website. On average, they only last "up to one year!?" I really want to put these on my 'bird but I don't want to be dropping $30-40 a year on them. On camaros it'd be even worse. Anyone have first hand experience with them? I'm hoping that they'd last at least two full years.

Laters.

My friend has had his on his car for over a year and it's his daily driver and he drives around at night from school.
